185 of the tours we sell, across 45operators, carry a statement from the operator that they can accommodate a wheelchair, limited mobility, limited sight, or a pushchair. As far as we can tell nobody else selling Iceland tours publishes this at all, which is why the usual answer is emailing twenty operators one at a time.
This is the operator's claim, not our inspection. We have not personally checked that each boat or coach does what it says. "Accessible" also covers a wide range — ask us and we will put your specific question to the operator before you pay anything.
A tour missing from this page is not necessarily unsuitable. Most of the other 1532 tours simply have the field left blank, which is normal. If you want one of them, ask — we would rather find out than let you assume the answer is no.

Room for a pushchair, which in practice also tells you the paths are firm and the stops are short. The commonest declaration by a wide margin.

The operator states the experience can take a wheelchair user. Ask which kind — a boat with level boarding is a different proposition from a coach with a lift.

Suitable if walking far or over rough ground is the difficulty. Usually means short, level walks and a vehicle you can board without steps.

about the usual price
It is rarely the vehicle. Icelandic sites are mostly unpaved — loose gravel at Þingvellir, uneven lava at Dimmuborgir, sand and rounded stones at Reynisfjara — so the question is usually the surface at each stop rather than the coach. Waterfall viewpoints often mean steps, and the popular ones can be slippery with spray or ice.
The lagoons are the strongest option and worth knowing about: the Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon and several of the smaller baths have lifts or ramps into the water and accessible changing rooms, because they were built as facilities rather than adapted from a landscape. A geothermal pool day is often the most comfortable day of an Iceland trip.
Winter changes the answer for almost everything. Ice on a gravel path is a different problem from the gravel, and daylight is short enough that a long day tour can mean boarding and leaving in the dark. If mobility is a factor, the shoulder months of May, June and September are kinder than January.
They are tours where the operator has stated they can accommodate a wheelchair — 62 of them. That is the operator's own declaration in the booking system, not something we have inspected ourselves, and "accessible" covers a lot of ground: a boat with level boarding onto a wide deck is a very different proposition from a coach with a lift and one accessible stop. Tell us what you need and we will ask the operator the specific question before you pay.
Because only 124 operators filled the field in. A blank field is not a statement that a tour is inaccessible — it is the norm in this industry, and plenty of the other 1532 tours would work fine. If a tour you want is not on this page, ask us rather than assuming; we will find out.
Four things settle most of it. How you board the vehicle or boat, and whether there are steps. How far you walk at each stop and what the surface is — Icelandic sites are often loose gravel or uneven lava rather than paved paths. Whether there is an accessible toilet on the route, which on a long day matters more than anything else. And whether a companion travels free, which several operators offer but few advertise.
Some operators do this and almost none publish it. It is not in the booking system as a fare category, so it cannot be applied at checkout automatically. Email us before booking and we will ask on your behalf.
Tell us what you need and we will ask the operator directly, before you pay for anything.
