21–27 October 2026

What is running in Iceland this week

Seven days, one recommendation each, and a straight count of how much choice each day actually has. Written from the departure calendar rather than from what we would like to sell you.

The short version

  • 1,288 day tours have a departure somewhere in the seven days from Wednesday 21 October, out of 1,827 in the catalogue.
  • Busiest day is Sunday (1190 running); thinnest is Wednesday (460). If your dates are flexible by a day, that is the day to move.
  • Reykjavík gets 9 h 18 min of daylight on the first day of the week, losing about 39 minutes by the last.
  • Built from the departure snapshot taken on 21 October 2026. It is not live to the minute; check the date on the tour before you count on it.

How to read this

This page was built on21 October 2026from the departure snapshot we pull from our operators, and it is rebuilt every time the site is deployed. That is several times a week, not several times an hour — so treat the counts as a picture of the week, and check the date on the tour page itself before you book. Prices are per person in euro unless a tour is priced per vehicle.

The week at a glance

Sunrise and sunset are for Reykjavík. Akureyri and the north run roughly half an hour shorter at either end in winter and longer in summer, which is worth knowing if you are planning a long driving day. Daylight is computed locally, not fetched — see the planner for the same figures against your own dates.

Day by day

  1. Wednesday 21 October

    460 day tours · 8 multi-day departures · daylight 9 h 18 min (08:33–17:51)

A thin day by this week’s standards. Fewer departures means fewer places to move to if the weather turns, so if this is your only free day, book it early and pick something that runs whatever the sky does.

For the day the weather turns

At least one day of any Icelandic week is wet, windy or both, and the honest planning move is to keep something in reserve that does not care. These run this week and either the operator has flagged them as wet-weather work or they are indoors, underground or in hot water. Boats are deliberately excluded: wind cancels more tours here than rain does, and a whale watch in a force 7 is not a plan, it is a bad afternoon.

Everything that works in bad weather →

In season right now

Month ranges, not promises. Every one of these depends on something outside anybody's control, so each says what it actually turns on.

  • Northern lights season · September–AprilSee tours →

Needs darkness more than anything else. Nothing is visible around midsummer however strong the activity.

  • Whale watching · April–OctoberSee tours →

Boats run year-round from Reykjavík, but Húsavík and the northern harbours are seasonal and sightings peak in summer.

The thin end of the calendar

These have one or two departures in the whole seven days. Some are small operators running to their own rhythm, some are winding down for the season. Either way, if one of them is the reason you are coming, build the week around its date rather than the other way round.

Turn this into an actual plan

A list of what runs is not an itinerary. The planner takes your dates, your landing time and who is with you, and orders it into days that are physically possible — which matters more than choice does, because the commonest first-trip mistake is a day with four hours of driving in it.

Why book these with us

  • One checkout, any number of operators

Book a glacier hike from one company and a whale boat from another in a single payment, with one booking reference.

  • Rankings are not for sale

We sort by rating, never by what an operator pays us. No supplier can buy a higher position here.

  • 203 operators vetted, and not all of them accepted

We don't list everything in Iceland, on purpose. Every operator here is one we would book ourselves.

  • If it falls short, we fix it

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before most tours — and if an operator lets you down, tell us and we sort it out.

This week: questions people ask

Is this page live?

No, and we would rather say so. It is rebuilt from a departure snapshot every time we deploy the site, which is usually several times a week. Between deploys an operator can add a departure or pull one, so the individual tour page — which does check live — is the one to trust for a specific date.

Why is there no "only 2 seats left" anywhere on this page?

Because we do not have that number at the time this page is built. Seat counts come back per departure from a live request, so they exist on the tour page and not here. A scarcity line invented from a calendar would be the easiest thing on this site to fake and the worst thing to get wrong.

A tour I want is not listed for this week. Is it cancelled?

Usually it just has no open departure in these seven days. Plenty of our operators run to a fortnightly or seasonal rhythm, and a quiet 120 days is normal for small operators outside their season. Open the tour itself and look further ahead.

What is the best day to arrive?

On these dates, Sunday has the most choice and Wednesday the least. That matters more in winter than in summer: when a day only has a handful of departures, one weather cancellation leaves you with nothing to switch to.
