Iceland tour price index

Updated

What a seat on an Iceland day tour costs, by type of tour and by month, taken from the operators’ own live prices rather than from a survey. Medians, per person, in euros.

The short version

  • 21 tour types, 1054 per-person tours from Iceland’s operators, median prices recomputed on every rebuild (latest 21 October 2026).
  • Cheapest type: puffins at a median of €110. Dearest: multi-day packages at €1745.
  • 30 daily snapshots since 9 Sept 2026: 16 of 20 types moved by 1% or more.

Median price by month

For each type, the median price of the tours with at least one open departure in that month. Only months our availability data covers are shown; a dash means fewer than five tours of that type run then.

How prices have moved

The same medians recomputed from each daily snapshot we keep, 9 Sept 2026 to 21 Oct 2026. Only tours priced in every one of those snapshots are counted, so a change is a change in price, not in which tours we sell.

Methodology

  • Source. Adult list prices from the Bókun listings of the Icelandic operators we are contracted with, converted to euros. We are a reseller, so this is our catalogue, not every tour sold in Iceland.
  • What counts. Tours priced per person. Private tours, anything priced per vehicle or group, gear hire, transfers and admission-only tickets are excluded. Multi-day packages only count in their own category.
  • Tour type. The same categories as the rest of the site; a tour can sit in more than one (a whale and puffin trip counts in both). Types with fewer than five tours are left out.
  • By month. A tour counts in a month if it has at least one bookable date in it, read from each operator’s calendar. Months are shown only when at least seven of their days fall inside our 360-day availability window.
  • Over time. A snapshot of every product’s price is stored on each full data refresh. The history table uses a fixed basket — tours priced in every snapshot — so tours joining or leaving the catalogue do not move it. Days without a fresh refresh are missing on purpose rather than copied forward.
  • Not indexed. Airport transfers (priced per car) and self-drive packages (priced per booking).
  • Median. The middle price; with an even count, the mean of the two middle prices, rounded to the euro.

Questions people ask

Why the median and not the average?

A handful of very expensive tours pull an average up; the median is the price in the middle, which is closer to what most people pay.

Why are private tours left out?

They are priced per vehicle or group, not per seat. Mixing a €1,500 private car with a €90 coach seat produces a number that describes neither.

Why do some months have no figures?

Our availability data covers the next 360 days. A month outside that window has no departures we can see yet, and we do not fill the gap with a guess.

Can I use these figures?

Yes. Please credit Iceland Trip Planner and link to this page; the citation box above has the wording.
