Iceland airport transfers

267 transfers from 40 Icelandic operators — Keflavík to Reykjavík, the Blue Lagoon on the way in or out, Akureyri, and the highland buses. There is really only one decision here, and it is not the operator: shared seat or private car. Here is where that flips.

The only sum that matters

29 of the transfers we sell are priced per person — a seat on a coach or a shuttle. 236 are priced per vehicle: you book the car, and it costs the same whether one of you gets in or six do.

So the median private car at €255 is the same money as 2.8 shared seats at €90. Alone or as a couple, take the coach. From 3 people the private car is simply cheaper — and it goes to your door, waits for a late flight, and has room for the bags.

On Keflavík runs specifically it flips sooner: a median of €107 per seat against €248 for the car, so a family of three or four is paying more for the coach.

The catch, stated plainly

Per-vehicle prices assume everyone fits. A sedan is two or three people with normal luggage, not four with ski bags — read the vehicle and passenger count on the tour page before you book, because turning up with more people than seats is not something the driver can solve at the kerb.

Timing it

Keflavík to Reykjavík is 45 to 50 minutes in a car and nearer an hour and a quarter on a coach that calls at several hotels first. The Blue Lagoon sits between the airport and the city, which is why stopping there on the way in or out is genuinely efficient rather than a sales line — though it means managing your luggage, and the lagoon has lockers for exactly that reason.

Going home, be at the airport two and a half hours before a Schengen flight and three before anything else. Book the transfer to arrive then, not to leave then.

Airport transfers: questions people ask

Is a shared or private airport transfer cheaper?

Shared, until there are about 3 of you. A shared seat has a median price of €90 per person across the 29 we sell that are priced that way. A private car has a median of €255 — but that is for the whole vehicle, not per person, so it divides. At 3 people the private car is already the cheaper option, and it drops you at your door rather than at a bus stop.

How long does the Keflavík to Reykjavík transfer take?

About 45 to 50 minutes by private car, and nearer an hour and a quarter on a shared coach once it has called at several hotels. Allow more in winter weather. Coming back, be at the airport two and a half hours before a Schengen flight and three for anything else.

What if my flight is delayed?

A private transfer tracks the flight number you give at booking and waits — that is most of what you are paying the premium for. A shared coach runs to a timetable, so a long delay means taking the next departure, which on the Keflavík route is usually within the hour. Give us the flight number either way.

Do I need to book an airport transfer in advance?

Not strictly — there are coaches meeting most arrivals — but the private cars sell out on busy evenings, and prices do not improve at the desk. We sell 267 transfers from 40 operators, and most allow free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, so booking early costs nothing.

Add the transfer to your tours and it all goes through one checkout.
