Car rentals are coming

We're not renting cars yet. We'd rather add it properly — one or two rental firms we've checked ourselves, real prices, and the same one-checkout as everything else — than list a comparison table of companies we know nothing about. When it's ready it will be here.

If you're planning a self-drive trip now and want a hand, email [email protected]or call +354 497 1373. We know the island and we'll tell you honestly what's worth it.

  • One checkout, any number of operators

  • Rankings are not for sale

  • 153 operators vetted, and not all of them accepted

  • If it falls short, we fix it

Getting from the airport without a car

Deciding whether to drive at all

A car is worth it for the South Coast and the Golden Circle, and close to essential in the Westfjords. In Reykjavík in winter it mostly sits parked while you take tours out of town — and the roads that make a car exciting are the ones that close. Our trip planner asks whether you're driving and builds the days differently either way, so you can compare before you book.
