Is the Blue Lagoon worth it or is it too touristy?+
It is busy and it is worth it, once. The water is milky blue from silica, the setting in the Reykjanes lava is unlike anywhere else, and it sits twenty minutes from Keflavík Airport, so it fits an arrival or departure day. Book a time slot in advance; it sells out. If crowds bother you, go early morning or after 20:00. The Secret Lagoon or Fontana on the Golden Circle are calmer and cheaper alternatives.
Can I do the Blue Lagoon on the way to or from the airport?+
Yes, and it is the best way to use it. Transfers like IceTransfer's Keflavík to Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík (/experience/1036423/) or the reverse (/experience/1036419/) stop at the lagoon for a few hours with your luggage stored. Allow at least three hours at the lagoon and check that your slot lines up with your flight. Note that the Reykjanes eruptions have closed the lagoon at short notice; check its status before travelling.
What is the difference between the Secret Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon?+
The Secret Lagoon at Flúðir is a simple, warm geothermal pool with a bubbling hot spring beside it and basic changing rooms. It is on the Golden Circle, so it slots into a sightseeing day (/experience/17050/, /experience/624446/). The Blue Lagoon is a spa: silica masks, swim-up bar, saunas and a price to match. If you want a soak after a day of waterfalls, Secret Lagoon. If you want the spa day, Blue Lagoon.
Do I have to shower naked before a pool in Iceland?+
Yes, at every public pool and most lagoons. Swimwear off, wash thoroughly with soap, swimwear on, then into the water. It is a hygiene rule because Icelandic pools use very little chlorine, and it is taken seriously. Changing rooms are single-sex with open showers; some larger lagoons have a few private cubicles. Nobody looks. It feels odd for thirty seconds and then it does not.
Which hot springs can you swim in for free?+
The hot river at Landmannalaugar in the highlands, June to September, and the Reykjadalur river above Hveragerði, an hour's walk uphill from the car park. Both are natural, unheated by pipes and often crowded in the afternoon. There are no facilities beyond a boardwalk. Everywhere else worth soaking, from Fontana (/experience/1131886/) to the Forest Lagoon near Akureyri (/experience/1203527/), charges admission. Never bathe in an unmarked hot spring; some are scalding.
Can I combine the Golden Circle with a lagoon in one day?+
Yes, and it is the most popular way to do it. Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon (/experience/17050/), Golden Circle and Fontana (/experience/1131886/) or Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon with admission (/experience/150549/) all run nine to eleven hours. The trade-off is time at each stop; Gullfoss gets forty minutes rather than an hour. Bring a towel or rent one, and your swimwear in your day bag.
How much do lagoon & spa visits cost?+
From €44 to €1420 a person, with a typical price of €191. That is the median of 79 per-person day-tour fares we currently sell. Multi-day packages and private charters are priced differently and sit outside those figures.
What is the cheapest of the lagoon & spa visits?+
Secret Lagoon Experience Ticket with VAREN Iceland, at €44 a person. Read what it actually is before booking on price alone — the cheapest line is sometimes an admission ticket rather than a guided trip, and a large coach costs less per seat than a small-group minibus because it gives you less time at each stop.
Why do some lagoon & spa visits not show a price?+
5 of the 318 are priced on request rather than published, which almost always means a private charter where the cost depends on group size and pickup point. Ask us and we will get a quote from the operator.
How many lagoon & spa visits do you sell, and who runs them?+
318 of them, from 78 operators: BusTravel Iceland, VAREN Iceland, EastWest, Your Friend in Reykjavik, Atlantsflug, Iceland Premium Tours and 72 more. Every one is a company we hold a contract with — we do not list everything in Iceland, on purpose.
How long do lagoon & spa visits take?+
Day tours run from 1 hour to 15 hours, most commonly about 8.5 hours. Pickup and drop-off are usually inside that figure, so a three-hour tour from Reykjavík can mean closer to four door to door.
Are there cheaper options than a full lagoon & spa visits tour?+
28 of these are admissions or tickets rather than guided tours — Skylagoon Transfer From Your Hotel/Airbnb from €44, for instance. Worth knowing if you are driving yourself and only need entry.
Are there multi-day options among the lagoon & spa visits?+
Yes — 23 of the 318 run over two days or more. Those include accommodation and usually breakfast; check the individual itinerary.
Do lagoon & spa visits include hotel pickup?+
272 of 318 (86%) offer pickup. The rest ask you to meet on location. Pickup is the single most common cause of a missed tour in Iceland: it runs to a window rather than a time, and the bus will not wait long.
Can I book a private version of the lagoon & spa visits?+
170 of the 318 are private, the other 148 are shared departures. Private costs more in total but is priced per vehicle, so for four or more people it often works out close per head — and you set the pace.
When can I do the lagoon & spa visits?+
Across the next 360 days of live availability we hold departures in October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September. That is a rolling window rather than the whole year, so a month missing from that list is not necessarily a month with nothing running.
Are the lagoon & spa visits seasonal?+
39 of 318 run only part of the year; the other 279 run all year round. In Iceland that is usually about daylight or ice rather than demand.
How late can I book lagoon & spa visits?+
Cutoffs run from 1 to 23 hours before departure, and 130 of them accept bookings inside 24 hours — so booking the night before is often possible. Popular winter tours sell out days ahead regardless of the cutoff.
Can I cancel a lagoon & spa visit booking?+
231 of 318 (73%) allow free cancellation at least 24 hours before departure. The exact window is on each tour page and comes from the operator's own policy, not ours. If the operator cancels for weather you are refunded in full.
How fit do I need to be for lagoon & spa visits?+
Operators rate them: 235 easy, 61 very easy, 20 moderate, 2 challenging. Iceland's ratings assume weather — an easy walk in still air is a different proposition in 15 m/s of wind.
Is there a minimum age for lagoon & spa visits?+
101 of the 318 set one, ranging from 2 to 18 years. The rest have no stated minimum, which usually means infants are allowed but not that the tour suits them.
Are lagoon & spa visits suitable for children?+
202 of 318 are marked family-friendly by the operator. That is their judgement rather than ours, and it usually means the walking is short and the vehicle has a toilet.
Are any lagoon & spa visits accessible?+
Operators have flagged accessibility on some: 43 for prams and strollers, 19 for limited mobility, 17 for wheelchair users, 12 for limited sight. Ring us before booking rather than relying on the flag alone — Icelandic sites vary enormously and a flag does not describe the terrain at the stop.
What is included in lagoon & spa visits?+
Varies by operator. Across these: wi-fi on board on 82, parking fees on 52, admission fees on 36, food and drink on 25, national park entrance fee on 19. Anything not listed as included is not included — Icelandic operators are literal about this.
Are lagoon & spa visits guided, and in what language?+
219 of 318 are guided in person, with guiding offered in Arabic, Chinese, Danish, English, Esperanto, French and 7 more. English is standard on every shared departure in Iceland; other languages usually mean a private guide.
Where do lagoon & spa visits start from?+
They start from Capital Region (Reykjavík), Golden Circle area (Selfoss, Flúðir, Þingvellir), South Coast (Hella, Hvolsvöllur, Vík), Vatnajökull (Skaftafell, Höfn), Keflavík Airport, Akureyri & the North and 4 more. Where a tour starts matters more in Iceland than how long it lasts: the same tour from Reykjavík and from Vík are different days entirely.
What happens to lagoon & spa visits in bad weather?+
The operator cancels and refunds you in full — Icelandic operators cancel readily, and that is a good sign rather than a bad one. What they will not do is refund you for a tour that ran and simply had poor visibility. Wind cancels more tours here than rain or cold.
