About this experience

Leave behind the buzz of the city and set your sights on the untamed heart of Iceland. This full-day 4x4 adventure plunges you into the wild Highlands, where the geothermal marvels of Landmannalaugar await.

Accessible only during the summer months, Landmannalaugar is cut off for most of the year due to snow-covered mountain roads, making it one of Iceland’s most exclusive destinations. Widely considered one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, its landscapes look like something straight out of a fantasy movie.

Your epic journey kicks off at dawn in Reykjavík, whisking you toward some of Iceland’s most breathtaking and hidden waterfalls.

Your first conquest is Hjálparfoss, a mesmerizing twin cascade surrounded by ancient lava fields. Take time to explore this natural fortress before pressing onward to the thunderous heights of Háifoss, one of the tallest waterfalls in the country—a place that looks like something straight out of Stranger Things.

Then, discover Sigöldufoss, a stunning Highland waterfall set in a remote and surreal landscape.

Braving rugged Highland roads, your 4x4 powers through to Landmannalaugar, a legendary realm of rainbow-colored rhyolite mountains and bubbling geothermal springs.

Here, adventure is at its peak: trek a scenic 5 km hike of moderate difficulty through otherworldly terrain-proper hiking boots are essential-then soak your trail-weary muscles in a steaming natural hot spring surrounded by towering peaks.

But the adventure doesn’t end there. On your return journey, stop at Hnausapollur crater, a remote volcanic lake that dwarfs Kerið in both size and mystique. Then, admire the spectacular Frostastaðavatn, a tranquil Highland lake surrounded by dark lava fields and colourful mountains, creating one of the most striking landscapes in the Landmannalaugar area.

A final comfort stop lets you catch your breath before you roll back into Reykjavík, your spirit awakened and your memory brimming with wild Icelandic tales.

Please note: This full-day Highland adventure is suitable for participants aged 10-70 who are in good physical condition. Bringing enough food for the entire day is strongly recommended, as well as swimwear and a towel if you wish to enjoy the natural hot spring.

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 24 hours before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is closed roads — the Road Administration shuts the mountain roads before the operator has to decide anything. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Magic Iceland Travel decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 1 day before departure, the operator's policy after that.

Why this one and not the cheaper one?

The nearest cheaper Into The Glacier - For Super Jeeps from Arctic Adventures is €115 — €79 less. Here is every difference we can actually measure.

The €79 buys you 12 more hours out and hotel pickup. Whether that is worth it is your call — but that is what the difference is.

Sold out on your date?

Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.

Who this is not for

  • Children under 10 cannot join this one.
  • Not a good fit if you want a relaxed day: 13 hours is a long time on the road, most of it spent getting there and back.

Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

What a great tour at such a reasonable price! Went on the Golden Circle 9 hour tour today with Daniel (the guide) and Pavel (the driver). We survived so Pavel's obviously a good driver 😉 but the amount of information Daniel knew (despite not being a native Icelander) was astounding and presented in a very accessible manner. We had the cruise ship terminal pickup tour but they also pickup all around Reykjavík. Highly recommended to anyone looking for excellent value for money and a really interesting tour. We'll definitely use them again when we return to Iceland.

I did the Golden Circle with Surprise Tour in Reykjavik with tour guide Viktoria and driver Pawel on June 10, 2026. The tour totally exceeded my expectations. Viktoria was engaging and energetic and gave us information throughout the tour that was interesting and filled with humor. An added bonus is that she is a very good singer. Our driver Pawel was very courteous and helpful. They went out of their way to route the tour to try to minimized crowds and this was greatly appreciated by all. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Icelandic Adventure👌 If you’re in Reykjavik, stop scrolling and book this Golden Circle tour. Seriously 😉 Our guide, Thales, was an absolute legend. The man is a walking encyclopedia of Icelandic lore, but with way better jokes. He turned a scenic drive into a full-on masterclass about the land of fire and ice. The amazing stuff: Þingvellir: Walked between continents Geysir: Got some epic "eruption" videos Gullfoss: Absolutely mystical and magical Kerið Crater: amazing view from the top The "Surprise" (The Legend of the Shark): 🦈 The itinerary mentioned a "small local surprise." Thales whipped out some fermented shark. Let’s just say it’s a... unique culinary experience that stays with you (mostly in your nose). 🤣It was the highlight of the trip and had the whole bus laughing. An unforgettable day with a world-class guide. 10/10 highly recommend! 🤌👌🫶

Super jeeps — questions people ask

What is a super jeep?

A four-wheel-drive truck or van rebuilt for Iceland: raised suspension, huge low-pressure tyres and a snorkel, so it can cross rivers, drive on snow and climb glacier tracks that stop a rental car. Groups are small, usually eight to sixteen people. Super jeeps are how you reach Landmannalaugar in the highlands, ice caves under Mýrdalsjökull and dark northern-lights spots off the main roads. They are pricier than a coach, and rougher.

Is a super jeep northern lights tour better than a bus?

Slightly, for two reasons. A super jeep can leave the tarmac and find darker, more sheltered spots, and with ten people rather than fifty you spend less time waiting at stops. Arctic Adventures' Northern Lights Explorer (/experience/209/) and Northern Lights by 4x4 (/experience/1088067/) are the standard options. The sky is the same either way; a jeep does not make clouds part. If budget matters, a small-group minibus gets you most of the benefit.

When can you take a super jeep to Landmannalaugar?

Late June to September, once the highland roads open. The Landmannalaugar Safari (/experience/341/) is a twelve-hour day from Reykjavík with river crossings, a short hike and a soak in the natural hot river. The rest of the year the road is closed to everything except specially licensed winter expeditions. The dates the F-roads open vary each year with the snow, so if you are booking for June, expect a possible reschedule.

Is a super jeep tour comfortable?

Comfortable enough on the tarmac, bumpy on the rough stuff. That is the point. Expect to be thrown about on lava tracks and river beds, and to sit in a bench seat for several hours. People prone to motion sickness should sit in front and take a tablet. The trade-off is access: you see places coaches cannot go, with a driver-guide who talks to you rather than over a microphone.
