Best Way from Keflavík Airport to Reykjavík (2026)

Shared bus, private car, or the Blue Lagoon on the way: the Keflavík Airport transfers we would book ourselves, with real per-car prices.

Best Way from Keflavík Airport to Reykjavík (2026)

The short version

  • One or two people landing in the daytime: the scheduled airport bus, about €30 to €40 a seat, is the best way. We don't sell it — buy it at the airport or online.
  • Three or more people, or landing late at night: a private car, €140 per car with Iceland Direct Tours, straight to your door.
  • Blue Lagoon on the way in: IceTransfer.is runs airport, lagoon, then Reykjavík in one private car, €387 per car.
  • Keflavík is 45 to 50 minutes from Reykjavík. There is no train.

For most people, the best way from Keflavík Airport to Reykjavík is a private car if there are three or more of you — Iceland Direct Tours’ airport transfer is €140 for the whole car, door to door. For one or two people landing in daytime, the scheduled airport bus at about €30 to €40 a seat is cheaper and perfectly good.

Every plan starts at Keflavík Airport. It is 45 to 50 minutes from Reykjavík by road, there is no train, and taxis from the rank are expensive. So it comes down to bus, private car, or a stop at the Blue Lagoon on the way. Our shared shuttle or private guide does the full comparison. This page is the shortlist.

The shared bus (we don’t sell it)

Scheduled buses meet arriving flights and run to Reykjavík for roughly €30 to €40 a seat, with hotel drop-offs at extra cost. Expect to wait a little for departure, and 15 to 30 minutes of other people’s drop-offs. You can buy a ticket in the arrivals hall. We don’t list it because it isn’t a tour — but for one or two people it is the honest answer.

Suits: solo travellers and couples with a daytime landing. Not for: groups of three or more, or anyone landing in the small hours.

1. Airport Transfer — Iceland Direct Tours

  • Book: Airport Transfer
  • Price: €140 per car, not per person
  • Duration: about 45 minutes to 1 hour
  • Departs: Keflavík Airport arrivals, to your Reykjavík address

Our pick for most groups. A driver meets you, tracks your flight, and drives straight to your door. Split between three or four people, it costs about the same per head as the bus, and you save the wait.

Suits: families, small groups, late or early flights. Not for: a single traveller on a budget.

2. Keflavík Airport Transfer — Hyper Taxi

Effectively the same service and price as the top pick. If one is sold out on your date, book the other. It works in both directions, which is useful for the flight home.

Suits: the same people as the top pick. Not for: large groups with lots of luggage — check the vehicle size on the tour page.

3. Airport → Blue Lagoon → Reykjavík — IceTransfer.is

The Blue Lagoon is 20 minutes from the airport, so a soak on arrival makes sense. One car does airport, lagoon, then Reykjavík, and waits while you bathe. Lagoon tickets are separate — book a time slot first. The return trip runs the other way: Reykjavík to Blue Lagoon to Keflavík Airport, also €387.

Suits: couples and groups landing in the morning who want to use the first day. Not for: night arrivals, or anyone too tired to enjoy a lagoon. Our Blue Lagoon on the way in or out guide helps you choose which end of the trip.

4. Keflavík Airport ↔ Blue Lagoon only — Your Transfer

Just the short hop between airport and lagoon, either way. Useful on the last day, when you finish at the lagoon and fly home, or if you are staying near the airport.

Suits: last-day plans and anyone staying in Keflavík. Not for: getting to Reykjavík — it doesn’t go there.

Our honest take: how we picked

  • Transfers we can sell today, priced per car in EUR.
  • Door-to-door service with a driver meeting the flight.
  • The cheapest reliable option in each category, not the most premium.
  • Luxury and minivan transfers left out. They cost more and only matter for big groups or a special occasion.
  • None of these transfers has a tour-level rating yet, so we ranked on price and fit, not on an operator’s Google score.

When to go

Transfers run all year, at any hour. In winter the road can be icy and windy, and drivers slow down — allow an hour. The Blue Lagoon on the way in works best with a landing before about 15:00, so you are not bathing at midnight. If your flight is delayed, private drivers watch arrival times; the bus simply takes the next departure.
