About this experience
This day trip from Reykjavik takes you along the entire south of Iceland and the tour takes roughly 15 hours to complete. Some of the most scenic locations in Iceland can be found on this route so doing a private tour with some added flexibility is a great option. There is a fair amount of driving involved but the journey itself is more than worth it.
Travelling on the Ring Road from Reykjavik we go through some of the most scenic areas on the south coast of Iceland, including the Eldhraun Lava Field, Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Skógafoss Waterfall, Vík village, Skaftafell and Öræfajökull, highest mountain in Iceland and countless others.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Vatnajökull National Park stands out like a massive jewel forged with ice and fire and is an absolutely mind blowing experience. It is everchanging with the drift ice coming from the glacier and in fact growing every year so never quite the same.
We offer the option to take the amphibian boat trip out among the white and blue icebergs spotting new shapes at every turn and the heads of seals chasing fish into the sweet water.
And do not forget to check out the Diamond Beach at the mouth of the short glacial river where crumbling bits of transparent ice sparkle in the black volcanic sand.
Please be aware that there are numerous natural treasures along this route, and we may not have time to explore them all. Since this is a private tour, rely on your driver to suggest the most appealing destinations, and they will assist you in crafting an exceptional itinerary for the day.

Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.
Who this is not for
- Not a good fit if you want a relaxed day: 13 hours is a long time on the road, most of it spent getting there and back.
- Priced per vehicle, so it is poor value for one or two people and good value for four or more sharing.
Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

I had an excellent experience with our tour guide and driver, ASGEIR, during our trip to Iceland. He was professional, punctual, and extremely knowledgeable about the country's history, culture, and breathtaking natural attractions. ASGEIR made the journey enjoyable by sharing interesting stories and local insights throughout the tour. He was patient, friendly, and always ensured we were comfortable and had enough time to enjoy each stop. His driving was safe and smooth, even in challenging weather conditions, which made us feel secure throughout the trip. Thanks to ASGEIR, our visit to Iceland was not only beautiful but also truly memorable.

I booked multiple private driver excursions with Snæland Travel for my family vacation to Iceland with 8 adults and 2 small children, and am very pleased with their service. It was a complicated collection of needs and desires for our 5 day stay in Reykjavik and Isabella and the rest of the sales team were fantastic at helping me design a set of tours as well as coordinating airport transfer on arrival and departure. They were responsive to all my questions and concerns, and they were even able to make last minute arrangements for my son whose flight was cancelled and arrived a day later. The Reykjanes Peninsula private tour, with our driver Mike, gave us a look at the raw intensity of the lava fields, steam vents, bubbling mud pits, and the jagged lava coastline. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula private tour, with our driver Tryggvi, showed us beautiful coastal cliffs and remote ancient lava fields softened by generations of moss and grass giving a spectacular mystical feel to the landscape. The Golden Circle private tour, with our driver Chris, took us to the most popular tour destinations - Þingvellir National Park where we walked along the tectonic rift, Great Geysir area where we watched Strokkur erupt and hot springs boil, and Gullfoss where some of us marveled at the power of the sprawling waterfall from the upper viewing area and some of us ventured down the stairs to the base of the falls to feel the spray as it crashed into the ravine. Chris was a fantastic driver, as he walked us to the viewing platforms to take group photos and gave us some insight as to what to expect at each stop. As a private driver experience we were able to make personal adjustments to the day, and during our planning phase Isabella added a 2 hour dinner stop where we enjoyed a Viking feast (the dinner reservation and cost of the meal was not part of the Snæland Travel experience). I would highly recommend Snæland Travel for any tours, and I definitely would suggest trying the private driver option in order to have more control over how long you spend at each stop or even if you want to add or skip stops as long as it fits the designated time frame. My large family enjoyed traveling around Iceland in the comfort of our private van with friendly drivers, and I am very grateful for the experience.

Lagoons & spas — questions people ask
Is the Blue Lagoon worth it or is it too touristy?
It is busy and it is worth it, once. The water is milky blue from silica, the setting in the Reykjanes lava is unlike anywhere else, and it sits twenty minutes from Keflavík Airport, so it fits an arrival or departure day. Book a time slot in advance; it sells out. If crowds bother you, go early morning or after 20:00. The Secret Lagoon or Fontana on the Golden Circle are calmer and cheaper alternatives.
Can I do the Blue Lagoon on the way to or from the airport?
Yes, and it is the best way to use it. Transfers like IceTransfer's Keflavík to Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík (/experience/1036423/) or the reverse (/experience/1036419/) stop at the lagoon for a few hours with your luggage stored. Allow at least three hours at the lagoon and check that your slot lines up with your flight. Note that the Reykjanes eruptions have closed the lagoon at short notice; check its status before travelling.
What is the difference between the Secret Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon?
The Secret Lagoon at Flúðir is a simple, warm geothermal pool with a bubbling hot spring beside it and basic changing rooms. It is on the Golden Circle, so it slots into a sightseeing day (/experience/17050/, /experience/624446/). The Blue Lagoon is a spa: silica masks, swim-up bar, saunas and a price to match. If you want a soak after a day of waterfalls, Secret Lagoon. If you want the spa day, Blue Lagoon.
Do I have to shower naked before a pool in Iceland?
Yes, at every public pool and most lagoons. Swimwear off, wash thoroughly with soap, swimwear on, then into the water. It is a hygiene rule because Icelandic pools use very little chlorine, and it is taken seriously. Changing rooms are single-sex with open showers; some larger lagoons have a few private cubicles. Nobody looks. It feels odd for thirty seconds and then it does not.
