About this experience

Iceland's most famous driving route exists for a reason. The Golden Circle packs four of the country's most extraordinary natural and historical sites into a single loop that begins and ends on Reykjavík's doorstep - and this private tour covers every one of them without the crowds that come with shared buses.

The day opens at Kerið, a volcanic crater lake sitting in the middle of the southwest lowlands. The walk along the rim takes in the rust-red walls, the vivid blue-green water, and the silence of a place that was once an erupting volcano. From there the tour heads north into the heart of the Golden Circle, stopping first at Gullfoss - the double-tiered waterfall that drops into a canyon carved by meltwater from Langjökull glacier, filling the air with mist and noise before you've even reached the edge.

Lunch breaks the day at Friðheimar, a tomato farm and horse breeding operation that produces year-round using Iceland's geothermal heat. You eat inside the greenhouse, surrounded by plants, with a menu built entirely around what's growing metres from your table. The afternoon closes at Geysir, where Strokkur erupts every few minutes from the same geothermal field that gave every geyser in the world its name, and then at Þingvellir - Iceland's UNESCO World Heritage site, where the first parliament convened in 930 AD and two tectonic plates continue, visibly, to pull apart.
