Golden Circle Gourmet — Hrafnar Guides

Would this be cheaper direct? No — we sell at Hrafnar Guides's own price and take our commission from them, not from you. What you get here is one checkout across operators, one confirmation, and one place to change or cancel it. If you ever find it cheaper on their own site, tell us and we will match it or explain why we cannot.

About this experience

The Private Golden Circle & Tomato Farm Tour is a comprehensive 10-hour adventure starting with a flexible pickup at your accommodation in either Keflavík (08:00) or Reykjavík (08:30). As this is a private experience, your group of 1–7 participants will have the exclusive attention of an experienced guide and a dedicated vehicle for the entire duration of the day.

The journey begins with a visit to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in a dramatic rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates diverge. Guests can walk through the historic landscape where the world’s first parliament was founded, surrounded by stunning geological formations. The tour continues to the Great Geysir Geothermal Area, home to the reliable Strokkur geyser, which erupts every few minutes, providing excellent photo opportunities alongside bubbling mud pools and steaming vents.

A highlight of the route is Gullfoss, the "Golden Waterfall," where the powerful Hvítá river plunges into a deep, rugged canyon. Following the waterfall, the tour takes a unique detour to the Friðheimar Tomato Farm. Here, participants explore a geothermally heated greenhouse and enjoy a farm-to-table lunch experience among the tomato plants, learning about sustainable Icelandic farming. The final major stop is the Kerið Volcanic Crater, famous for its vivid red volcanic rock and the striking neon-blue lake situated at its bottom.

Throughout the day, your guide provides deep insights into Iceland’s volcanic geology, history, and the effects of climate change on the local environment. The tour emphasizes flexibility and personal service, allowing for a relaxed pace and a customized experience. The day concludes with a private drop-off back at your original pickup location or a preferred spot within the Reykjavík or Keflavík areas between 18:00 and 20:00.

Where you go

  1. Golden Circle Gourmet

Included

  • Private transportation for the entire 10-hour duration
  • Professional English-speaking guide
  • Door-to-door pickup and drop-off in Reykjavík or Keflavík
  • Parking fees at all locations
  • Fuel and local taxes

Not included

  • Lunch and snacks
  • Personal expenses at restaurants, gas stations, and cafes
  • Travel insurance
  • Hiking boots
  • Warm, insulating clothing (preferably layered in the “onion” style)
  • Waterproof and windproof jacket and pants
  • Gloves and a warm hat
  • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • Sunscreen
  • Extra snacks and water

Good to know

  • Warm, layered clothing
  • Waterproof and windproof jacket
  • Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes
  • Warm hat and gloves (even in summer)
  • Sunglasses
  • Small backpack for personal items
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Camera or smartphone

Before your tour, customers should be well prepared for the unpredictable Icelandic weather. Conditions can change rapidly, so dressing in warm, layered clothing is essential throughout the year. We recommend a waterproof and windproof outer layer to protect against rain and wind, even if the forecast looks clear. Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are necessary for visiting natural sites like waterfalls and volcanic craters.

Since this is a full-day experience, bringing a small backpack is recommended to store extra layers, water, and personal items. While we visit several stops with facilities, having your own water bottle and light snacks ensures comfort between locations. For the gourmet portion of the tour, please inform us in advance of any dietary requirements or allergies so we can coordinate with the local providers.

For tours including a pickup service, please be ready at your designated location (Reykjavík or Keflavík) at the scheduled time. Being prepared helps ensure a smooth, relaxed, and memorable journey through Iceland’s iconic landscapes.

Cancellation for this tour

Cancelling costs 50% of the price within 8 days of departure. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is a forecast the operator judges unsafe. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Hrafnar Guides decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until the cutoff shown above, the operator's policy after that.

Questions on the day: [email protected] · +354 497 1373. How cancellations work in Iceland →

Sold out on your date?

Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.

Who this is not for

  • Children under 10 cannot join this one.
  • Priced per vehicle, so it is poor value for one or two people and good value for four or more sharing.

Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

Why we list it

I had the best glacier experience yet thanks to Ondra. Instead of a short walk he took our group for a proper long hike to Svinafelljokul, beautiful glacier with many crevasses and lupin field on the side. There was no time to be bored as he said many interesting stories and facts in a playfully and educational way. Highly recommend!!!

Amazing tour I’ll remember for a lifetime! Ondřej is a fantastic guide. I felt safe the whole time and everything was very well organized. He speaks both English and Polish (and probably many more!). Highly recommend this glacier hike!

What an incredible adventure! 😭 The glacier was even more beautiful than I expected. The views were breathtaking and every moment of the hike was special 🥹🥹 Our guide Ondrej was fantastic, he explained many interesting things about the glacier and always checked that everyone was doing well. The small group made us feel special and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the experience. Walking through the glacier crossing between ice crevasses and glacier hills was exciting and fun, even during the more adventurous parts we always felt completely safe 🧚 Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

I highly recommend a glacier tour to anyone visiting and discovering Iceland, especially with guide Andrzej. He planned the route very well (you feel safe), provided all the new equipment, and shared many interesting facts about the glacier, plus seeing the crevasses was incredible🥹. I'm very satisfied, so I recommend it to everyone. A trip for everyone😇
