About this experience

Join us on an out-of-the-ordinary luxury jeep excursion to the Þórsmörk (Thórsmörk) natural reserve, a favorite location for hikers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts hidden amid glaciers in the Southern Highlands of Iceland.

The experience begins when we pick you up from your hotel in Reykjavik in our luxury 4x4 jeep and begin our journey along Iceland's south coast. First, we visit the world-famous Seljalandsfoss, the spectacular waterfall that you can walk behind for a fascinating experience and some fantastic photographs.

We leave the Ring Road and begin driving towards Thórsmörk, the Valley of Thor, a natural wonder named after the Norse god of thunder and situated between three glaciers: Tindfjallajökull, Mrdalsjökull, and the world-famous Eyjafjallajökull, the glacier-topped volcano that erupted in 2010, disrupting air traffic throughout Europe and the world.

Thórsmörk's heart is situated between the Krossá, Þröngá, and Markarfljót rivers. Thórsmörk is not only a beautiful place to visit but a unique landscape in Iceland and the world, with powerful glacial rivers, vivid green moss-covered areas, birch forests, and black desert plains. 

Our Private Luxury Jeep Tour to Thórsmörk, the Valley of Thor, takes you to the heart of Thórsmörk, which is only accessible during the summer months, where you can take in the unique beauty of Icelandic nature as you get up close and personal with roaring rivers, frozen glacier tongues, green mountains, and caves.

We stop at the glacier tongue Gígjökull, from where you may hike up to the brink of Eyjafjallajökull volcano. We also stop at Stakkholtsgjá Canyon where you can enter the mountainside and gaze up at stunning 100-meter high cliffs towering above your head. 

In our comfy 4x4 jeep, we cross rivers and go deeper into Thórsmörk, where you will be able to take short hikes and enjoy breath-taking views of the valley with luxury and comfort. 

After taking all this beauty in, we drive you back to your hotel in Reykjavik at the end of our Private Luxury Jeep Thórsmörk Tour.

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 2 days before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is closed F-roads or a highland storm — decided by the Road Administration and the driver. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 2 days before departure, the operator's policy after that.

    We had the best experience with Örvar at Iceland Premium Tours! We booked 2 private tours over 2 days - the Golden Circle and South Island. We got to see and experience some extra things that we wouldn't have if we had taken a large bus tour, We were also able to tailor the tours to our own preferences. It was the best decision we could have made! Not only did we see some of the most incredible sights of Iceland we also learnt so much about the history and culture of Icelandic people.     We booked a private group tour for 10 adults for 5 days through Firebird Tours and they chose Iceland Premium Tours to take us to all the adventures we had planned. Gummi picked us up at the airport and took us around Reykjavik and the surrounding towns that first day and on a Golden Circle tour the following day, sharing history and answering questions along the way. Orvar, Gummi's brother and owner of the company, took us around the island the remainder of our trip. He also shared helpful Icelandic history and tales and even suggested some changes due to the weather. One suggestion was that we visit the Seljalandsfoss waterfall on our way back to our hotel instead of before a scheduled ice cave tour so we wouldn't be late due to the road conditions. The waterfall was amazing under the stars, and we had the place all to ourselves - this was much better than it would have been earlier in the day with the snow for sure! The brothers each made sure to ask if we needed food or water, or to use the facilities whenever the opportunity arose during our drives. They obviously care about the company and the people they share their country with. If we go back, we'll request Iceland Premium Tours!
