Classic Heliskiing Day Tour — Sóti Summits

Would this be cheaper direct? No — we sell at Sóti Summits's own price and take our commission from them, not from you. What you get here is one checkout across operators, one confirmation, and one place to change or cancel it. If you ever find it cheaper on their own site, tell us and we will match it or explain why we cannot.

About this experience

These packages run from one to as many days as one pleases. Summit Heliskiing has a partnership with Norðurflug that has over a decade of heliskiing experience. Their Astar B2 helicopter carries up to 4 guests, pilot and guide. Seats are sold on a per person basis for the skier looking for adventure in a small group of fellow ski enthusiasts.

Enjoy the amenities of the excellent Sóti Lode Hotel. The program focuses on skiing the most iconic peaks surrounding Siglufjörður, Ólafsfjörður, and Fljótin, with the runs chosen by our guide team each morning according to snow and weather conditions.

Please keep in mind that as with all mountain adventure activities, heliskiing entails a certain risk to participants. Please make sure your insurance covers this.

Cancellation for this tour

Cancelling costs 20% of the price within 150 days of departure, rising to 50% within 6 days. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is wind and visibility — flights are grounded well below the limits you would guess. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Sóti Summits decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until the cutoff shown above, the operator's policy after that.

Why this one and not the cheaper one?

The nearest cheaper Northern Lights Cruise & FlyOver Iceland from Elding Adventure at Sea is €145 — €855 less. Here is every difference we can actually measure.

How hard it isModerateEasy

On everything we can measure, the Elding Adventure at Sea tour is the better buy. The €855 is not buying anything we can point to, so unless you want this operator in particular, take the cheaper one.

Sold out on your date?

Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.

Who this is not for

  • Not a good fit if you want a relaxed day: 1 day is a long time on the road, most of it spent getting there and back.

Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

Why we list it

Sóti Summits is one of 154 operators we work with — chosen for reliability, honest descriptions and how they treat guests when weather changes plans. We don't list everything; we list what we'd book ourselves. The six checks every operator passes →

We were lucky enough on this trip to experience almost everything an Icelandic winter can offer. The journey began with calm weather and sunshine, and we really could not have asked for a better start — especially being surrounded by such a great group of people. Days two and three were much more wintry, with strong winds and blowing snow, so visibility up in the mountains was limited. On the fourth day, the weather began to improve, and everyone came back from the mountain with big smiles. On the fifth day, we were in Hrafnsfjörður, and the weather could not have been better. We reached a mountain summit, enjoyed the incredible views and the beautiful conditions, and then skied back down. The mix of fantastic snow and some challenging slopes made the whole experience truly unforgettable. The crew — Gunni, Össur, and our guide Smári — were absolutely excellent in every way. They did everything they could to make the trip as memorable as possible. A wonderful adventure, great people, stunning surroundings, and a trip I will remember for a long time. Highly recommended.

Great place. The hotel is very nice, the service perfect and the landscape and the view wonderful. The hard snow (and limited) was somewhat disappointing. The instructor should have divided the group into experienced and non- experienced skiers.

We had an incredible experience in the Westfjords of Iceland aboard the Orkin. Gunnar, Ossur and Arnar were incredible hosts. From the moment we boarded the plane in Reykjavik everything was taken care of. This is a must do trip for any ski touring enthousiast. We will be back!

What a wonderful experience. My family caught at least 50 cod in the waters. If you are worried about sea sickness or the cold of the artic waters, don't let that stop you. They stay in the fjord so the waters were calm. Great educational experience as well as we learned a lot about geology and wildlife. We had a private tour, so we had cod cooked right on the boat (and a little to take with us for an airbnb cookout). Highly recommended. My kids had a ball!
