Eldhestar runs horse riding, sightseeing day tours, lagoons & spas and more in Reykjavík, Golden Circle, starting from Sveitarfélagið Ölfus, Hveragerdi. We book them directly, so what you see here is their own availability and their own cancellation policy — at the same price you'd pay them.
“Since 1986, Eldhestar has offered the largest variety of horse-riding tours in Iceland. Our tours have always been operated by Eldhestar. From half-day, day, and combo tours to multi-day tours from 2-8 days with accommodation and meals at our hotel.”
All of the above is computed from Eldhestar's own 20 product records, not from a questionnaire. Fleet size and typical group sizes are the figures a comparison table usually shows; Bókun does not carry them, so we would be guessing, and we would rather leave a gap than fill it in.

This review is for the horse tour, not the hotel.
Signed up for route 2A as a completely novice rider (0 horsing experience). Had Lena as our guide and she was excellent. The horses were very well behaved and only went fast when you asked them to, and sometimes I had to ask more than once (my horse liked to ignore me). Views were incredible and it was the best introduction to horse riding I could have asked for.
Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Iceland.

Stayed at the guesthouse and beds were very comfortable. Shared bathrooms-clean and multiple. Nice common room and got to also use and enjoy the hotel hottubs. The restaurant was very good and can accommodate any diet restrictions.

Highly recommended for horse riding tours, our horses were very well behaved, the day rides to the hot river and river estuary had amazing variety and views. Our lead guide Nadine was exceptional, full of fun and very informed on the local area and culture and especially good on identifying the many birds we saw. Our second guide Ami was also very helpful and cheerful and helped riders to understand how to ask the horses to go into the tolt gait. We were very comfortable in the hotel and enjoyed the evening meals which were of a high standard. The staff in the hotel were great as well.

Just finished the tour 9AH and had the time of my life riding beautiful and kind-hearted horses. Everything about these tours is so well thought and planned, from the pick-ups to the horses, organisation and guides. The horses are just amazing and incredibly safe through the difficult terrain. Our guides Anna, Caroline and Signe were all incredible, super knowledgeable and helpful, and Anna's leadership and problem solving skills made us feel comfortable and safe at every moment, we couldn't have asked for better guides. We've made really good friends along the way, enjoyed very nice meals and a hot tub after the long rides. The hotel rooms were comfortable and spacious, with beautiful views of the paddock and ponies. This place is like heaven on earth and everyone is so lovely that it makes you just want to move in there and ride Icelandic ponies every day.
My only bit of feedback would be that the restaurant staff could do with handling allergies/intolerances much better.
I hope to be back another time, it was super worth it!!

No. We sell Eldhestar's tours at the price they set, through their own booking system, so the seat costs the same here as on their site. What you get here in addition is one checkout for every tour in your trip, whoever runs it, and one place to turn if plans change.
Does Eldhestar pick up from hotels?+
19 of their 20 tours include a pickup service; the rest start at a meeting point. Each tour page says which, and pickup is chosen at checkout.
What is Eldhestar's cancellation policy?+
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. The exact window is printed on every tour page and in your confirmation, and a refund goes back to the card you paid with.
Where do Eldhestar tours start?+
Their departures we sell start from Sveitarfélagið Ölfus, Hveragerdi. Check the map on each tour page for the exact meeting point.
Is there a minimum age on Eldhestar tours?+
Yes, on 20 of their 20 tours, the lowest being 5. The rest set no minimum. The planner filters by your youngest traveller if you give it ages.
How is Eldhestar rated?+
4.5 out of 5 on Google from 1180 reviews of the company. That is the operator's score, not a rating of any one tour; our own guests' reviews of their tours, where we have them, are shown on this page and on the tour pages.
Not sure which of these fits your dates? The planner checks real departures and builds the day around them.
