North Tides

North Tides runs glacier hiking, hiking & trekking, boat tours and more in Vatnajökull & Jökulsárlón, starting from Höfn in Hornafjörður. We book them directly, so what you see here is their own availability and their own cancellation policy — at the same price you'd pay them.

“Hiking and kayaking excursions in Vatnajökull National Park. We offer small group tours using packrafts (lightweight inflatable kayaks) to access remote and secluded locations. We specialise in kayaking tours on glacier lakes and lagoons.”

Had a great time with Rory. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and had a great itinerary for our group of 4. His route is his own, so we didn't see a single other soul on the excursion. We did the longest excursion he offered and it was cool to kayak and then climb a glacier. It was accessible even for our friend who had never kayaked before. You don't need to be in terrific shape, but being somewhat in shape (able to carry a 20lb pack for 30 minutes) is recommended! It was a one of a kind experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We had such a wonderful time kayaking amongst the icebergs! The views were incredible, and we had a nice leisurely 2 hour paddle round the lake, which we had entirety to ourselves. Rory was a fantastic guide, very kind to accommodate our timing and make sure my dad would be able to manage the trip. He is super knowledgeable, has a nice relaxed pace, and very safety-conscious. Highly recommend taking a trip if you can book a time!!!

Rory is an excellent guide. We were the only people on the water and glacier. We kayaked among icebergs and then to top it off, he led us on a gorgeous hike to the edge of and onto the glacier. Surpassed our expectations and then some.

Rory is a great tour guide with glacier knowledge. We spent great time in the full day ice cave tour which is a small group tour(6 people). We started from some ice cave which other normal tours will not come. And then in the afternoon, we go head to the stunning crystal blue ice cave. And avoid high peak time and enjoy the cave photo shooting. 🫡👍

Questions about booking North Tides

Is it cheaper to book North Tides directly?

No. We sell North Tides's tours at the price they set, through their own booking system, so the seat costs the same here as on their site. What you get here in addition is one checkout for every tour in your trip, whoever runs it, and one place to turn if plans change.

Does North Tides pick up from hotels?

None of the 4 North Tides tours we sell includes a hotel pickup. Each tour page gives the meeting point — they start from Höfn in Hornafjörður.

Where do North Tides tours start?

Their departures we sell start from Höfn in Hornafjörður. Check the map on each tour page for the exact meeting point.

Is there a minimum age on North Tides tours?

Yes, on 4 of their 4 tours, the lowest being 14. The rest set no minimum. The planner filters by your youngest traveller if you give it ages.

How is North Tides rated?

5.0 out of 5 on Google from 40 reviews of the company. That is the operator's score, not a rating of any one tour; our own guests' reviews of their tours, where we have them, are shown on this page and on the tour pages.

Not sure which of these fits your dates? The planner checks real departures and builds the day around them.
