Silfra snorkelling vs diving

Snorkel unless you already hold a dry-suit qualification. Silfra’s visibility means you see most of the fissure from the surface, and snorkelling needs no certificate. Diving costs roughly twice as much and requires a dry-suit certification with logged dives. Certified divers get the deeper sections; everyone else loses very little by snorkelling.

The short version

Questions people ask

Which is better, Snorkelling or Scuba diving?

Snorkel unless you already hold a dry-suit qualification. Silfra’s visibility means you see most of the fissure from the surface, and snorkelling needs no certificate. Diving costs roughly twice as much and requires a dry-suit certification with logged dives. Certified divers get the deeper sections; everyone else loses very little by snorkelling.

Which is cheaper, Snorkelling or Scuba diving?

Across the tours we sell, the typical per-person fare is €180 for Snorkelling and €363 for Scuba diving; the cheapest seats are €100 and €246. Private and per-vehicle tours are left out, because a car price is not comparable with a seat.

Is it cheaper to book direct with the operator?

No. We sell at the operator’s own price and are paid a commission by them, so the price is the same. Booking here puts both kinds of tour in one basket with one checkout.
