About this experience

Enjoy one of the most diverse horseback riding experiences in South Iceland. Our farm near Hvolsvöllur is located along the South Coast — about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Reykjavík — making it an ideal starting point for this scenic adventure toward the Írá river and Írafoss waterfall. Here we’ll take a short break and capture unforgettable photos of you and your Icelandic horse against the dramatic backdrop.

From there, we continue east past small farms and climb onto a sandbank with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The ride then leads us along the dramatic shoreline of Lake Holtsós, where mountain scenery and coastal riding blend into one breathtaking trail. On clear days, we may even glimpse the Westman Islands offshore and catch sight of the mighty Skógafoss waterfall in the distance, along with the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull.

The minimum age for our trail rides is 6 years. For our youngest riders, we happily offer pony rides here at the farm. Feel free to send us a booking inquiry — we’d love to welcome you.

Good to know

Weather-appropriate clothing: Dress in layers to stay warm, depending on the season. Waterproof and windproof outer layers are highly recommended, as Icelandic weather can be unpredictable.
Comfortable boots: Closed shoes or boots are best for riding. Avoid sneakers or sandals.
Gloves and a thin hat: Especially in cooler months, to keep warm.
Sunglasses and sunscreen: The sun can be strong, especially reflecting off black sand and water.
Camera or phone: To capture the stunning scenery (securely stored while riding).
Positive attitude and sense of adventure.
