About this experience

Today you'll head into the Icelandic highlands to explore Landmannalaugar, one of the country's most extraordinary landscapes and a place that rewards every kilometre of the drive to get there. The journey from Reykjavík takes around 3.5 hours each way, passing dramatic lava fields and the brooding silhouette of Hekla - one of Iceland's most active volcanoes - as the terrain shifts from the familiar south coast to something altogether wilder.

Landmannalaugar is best known for its rhyolite mountains, whose slopes shift between green, red, yellow, and purple depending on the light and the hour. On arrival, you'll explore the Laugahraun lava field, framed by steep walls of colorful rhyolite, on a hike tailored to your group's pace and preference. The tour is fully flexible - those who want to push further into the trails can, while others are welcome to slow down, take photos, and simply take in where they are.

The natural hot springs at Landmannalaugar offer an optional soak before the drive back - warm geothermal water in the middle of the highlands, with the coloured mountains all around you.

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 7 days before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is closed F-roads or a highland storm — decided by the Road Administration and the driver. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Easy Travel Iceland decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 7 days before departure, the operator's policy after that.

Who this is not for

  • Not a good fit if you want a relaxed day: 12 hours is a long time on the road, most of it spent getting there and back.
  • Not for last-minute planners — free cancellation ends 7 days before, longer than most tours here.

Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

Alessandro from Easy Travel was amazing. He is a true relationship builder who introduced us to Iceland and Easy. This is not your standard bus tour, Alessandro spends time to understand you and tailor experiences that matter to you. We would use Easy again when back in Iceland.

What an amazing Icelandic tour we had today with Alessandro from Easy Travel Iceland! His knowledge of Iceland, and of the world at large, is impressive. He met our criteria including a focus on the nature, finding sites without tourists, minimizing the drive times between sites. Alessandro was keen to tailor the day to our desired pace and interests. The Friodheimar GreenHouse venue was inspiring and such a great fit with our interests. Thank you Alessandro, for your attention to detail and for your capacity to make this day a riveting experience.
