What to expect?
We have put together this 4-Day package that allows you to experience awe-inspiring landscapes along with fun and exciting activities. This is the perfect 4-day package for your summer vacation in Iceland.
During this season the days are long due to extensive daylight. This means more time to explore. We might decide to extend some day tours into the evening because why stop exploring if the sun is still shining (even though it’s almost midnight.)
During this season a whole new world opens up as the highlands become accessible. Full of vibrant colors and otherworldly landscapes. We will adjust the itinerary and thus make sure you get the most of your summer vacation in Iceland.
Your accommodation
We have created the ideal base for your adventure travel in Iceland. You will accommodate at Midgard Base Camp. At Base Camp you will also find a restaurant, bar, café and a small clothing and gear store. It is filled with local people and good vibes. Comfortable beds, delicious food, locally brewed beer, and not to mention the rooftop sauna and hot tub. For more information check out Midgard Base Camp’s website.

Good to know
Iceland's weather is dynamic in all seasons. Being well prepared can make all the difference.
It is recommended to have a sturdy pair of broken-in trail shoes, boots, or sneakers (depending on the tour). It is preferable to dress in layers and wear clothing that will wick away perspiration and keep you dry and comfortable. We recommend that you take a small backpack with you where you can keep extra clothes. The weather is very unpredictable. Just as we do ourselves, we advise people to check the weather forecast the evening before their tour. This means you will know which extra clothes to pack.
Here is a list that is good to have in mind when packing for an active vacation in Iceland:
- Hiking Boots – Preferably of waterproof material (Gore-Tex or alternative)
- Long sleeve shirt (thermal underwear) – Wool or synthetic
- Light wool sweater or fleece (2nd layer)
- Trousers (2nd layer) – Strong and light material that dries quickly. Wind resistant and water repelling preferable.
- Rain Jacket or an Anorak with hood – Waterproof and breathable material. Gore-Tex or equivalents are preferable.
- Rain trousers – Waterproof and breathable material
- Liner Gloves – Wool or synthetic (polypropylene / polyester)
- Socks – Wool or synthetic. One or two pairs for thermal and blister prevention
- Hat or beanie – Wool or synthetic
Check our our FAQ page for more information.
There is a minimum of 4 participants for this tour. In case of fewer bookings we will give you two choices: an alternative trip or a 100% refund.
This tour departs from Reykjavik.
No pick-up at KEF Airport is possible.
Cancellation for this tour
Cancelling costs 30% of the price within 999 days of departure, rising to 50% within 28 days. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.
If the weather cancels this tour
Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is closed roads — the Road Administration shuts the mountain roads before the operator has to decide anything. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.
- 1Midgard Adventure decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
- 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
- 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.
What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until the cutoff shown above, the operator's policy after that.

Sold out on your date?
Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.
Who this is not for
- Not for families with children under 12 — the operator will not take them, even with a parent.
Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.
Why we list it

What a fabulous adventure! Our tour group and tour guide were fantastic. We were so ecstatic to have such an active group of people on our tour allowing us to do multiple hikes and excursions. Our tour guide Alessandro was absolutely incredible! So knowledgeable & friendly. My husband and I loved chatting with him and learning about his personal background and time in Iceland. I would definitely recommend this excursion it was one of our top 2 highlights of our 9 day trip around the ring road!

Our day in Þórsmörk with Ragnar ended up being one of those travel experiences we’ll be talking about long after we get home. Ragnar was hilarious from the start—full of stories about Icelandic life, culture, and folklore that had our whole group rolling with laughter. But beyond being entertaining, he has an obvious passion for both his country and the work he does. You can tell he genuinely loves sharing this place with people. Because it was a private tour, he really paid attention to who we were and what we enjoyed. He quickly realized our group was up for a little adventure and customized the day to match our energy level, taking us to incredible hikes, stunning viewpoints, and hidden spots we never would have found on our own. Along the way, he taught us about the geology and history of the area in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. And then there were the Icelandic hot dogs. What could have been a quick lunch stop became a memorable part of the day, complete with Ragnar’s enthusiastic tutorial on the proper way to stack the condiments. We may never eat a hot dog the same way again. We had some amazing experiences in Iceland, but this one felt especially personal. Ragnar didn’t just guide us through Þórsmörk—he made us feel like we were experiencing like a local. We’re so grateful for the memories and would recommend him & Midgard Adventure in a heartbeat.

The Þórsmörk Super Jeep hiking tour with Midgard totally exceeded our expectations! A massive shoutout to Carlos Gabriel, who is truly one of the best guides I’ve ever encountered. Not only is he an incredibly skilled driver—making the rugged terrain and river crossings feel completely safe and exciting—but he is also a wealth of knowledge. He kept us engaged the entire time, explaining the fascinating local plants, rocks, and geology along the way. The hike itself was incredibly fun and diverse, taking us through a stunning variety of landscapes. The final payoff at the top was breathtaking, offering a magnificent view of the snow-capped mountains and the massive valley below. If you are looking for an unforgettable adventure in Iceland, I cannot recommend Midgard and Carlos enough!

Our family of 4 had an amazing time with Odi and a small group on a Super Jeep tour of Thorsmork. He was very kind to our 9 year old daughter and spent the entire day engaging us with local knowledge. The scenery is incredible and even with poor weather elsewhere its microclimate was mostly dry and even let some sun break through.

Super jeeps — questions people ask
What is a super jeep?
A four-wheel-drive truck or van rebuilt for Iceland: raised suspension, huge low-pressure tyres and a snorkel, so it can cross rivers, drive on snow and climb glacier tracks that stop a rental car. Groups are small, usually eight to sixteen people. Super jeeps are how you reach Landmannalaugar in the highlands, ice caves under Mýrdalsjökull and dark northern-lights spots off the main roads. They are pricier than a coach, and rougher.
Is a super jeep northern lights tour better than a bus?
Slightly, for two reasons. A super jeep can leave the tarmac and find darker, more sheltered spots, and with ten people rather than fifty you spend less time waiting at stops. Arctic Adventures' Northern Lights Explorer (/experience/209/) and Northern Lights by 4x4 (/experience/1088067/) are the standard options. The sky is the same either way; a jeep does not make clouds part. If budget matters, a small-group minibus gets you most of the benefit.
When can you take a super jeep to Landmannalaugar?
Late June to September, once the highland roads open. The Landmannalaugar Safari (/experience/341/) is a twelve-hour day from Reykjavík with river crossings, a short hike and a soak in the natural hot river. The rest of the year the road is closed to everything except specially licensed winter expeditions. The dates the F-roads open vary each year with the snow, so if you are booking for June, expect a possible reschedule.
Is a super jeep tour comfortable?
Comfortable enough on the tarmac, bumpy on the rough stuff. That is the point. Expect to be thrown about on lava tracks and river beds, and to sit in a bench seat for several hours. People prone to motion sickness should sit in front and take a tablet. The trade-off is access: you see places coaches cannot go, with a driver-guide who talks to you rather than over a microphone.
