About this experience

Our Black Beach Riding Tour is an easy-going one hour ride perfectly suited for beginners and people who don’t go horse riding often, but we welcome riders of all abilities. Our horses are friendly and sure-footed, perfect to enjoy the wild Icelandic terrain. In the summer there is a chance to spot puffins flying above us, and in winter the ever-changing weather highlights the rugged beauty of the landscape.

The tours are mostly at walking speed, but for those who are capable there is the chance to try some tölt, the special gait of the Icelandic horse.

Please note we have a weight limit of 100 kg / 220 lbs, and riders must be aged 10+. We are committed to the welfare of our horses and reserve the right to ask riders to step on a scale. We ask you to be at the stable, dressed and ready to ride, 15 minutes before your departure time.

Our tour is an easygoing one-hour ride, but we require all participants to be physically fit enough to mount independently. We get on the horses from the ground as this is how they are trained in Iceland (not to stand with a stool/mounting block).

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 2 days before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

1Vik Horse Adventure decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 2 days before departure, the operator's policy after that.

We loved our experience with Vik Horse Adventure! Our horses (Kvika, Yoey and Hector) were so sweet, and the guides were fantastic. Loved this horse riding experience. Great for all levels. Instructors made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the whole activity. We were lucky enough to experience the Icelandic pony tolt. Again, instructors made sure everyone was comfortable and said they would happily separate the group if some wanted to go faster while some go slower. Ponies were so friendly - highly recommend.

Really nice and calm experience, it’s only one hour, the horses are very relaxed, you do have a chance to go a little bit quicker at the end so it’s a little bit more exciting but overall all the horses going one line and you really enjoy the view and hopefully you have a beautiful day! But overall really nice experience.
