About this experience

Our Family Tour is a gentle 30 minute ride designed for the youngest riders (6+) and their families. Our horses are friendly and sure-footed, perfect to enjoy the wild Icelandic terrain. Our guides are happy to lead children from the ground or give extra assistance to anyone feeling a bit nervous. The horses really enjoy relaxing on the beach with their riders and the ever-changing weather highlights the rugged beauty of the landscape.

Please note we have a weight limit of 100 kg / 220lb, and riders must be aged 6+. We are committed to the welfare of our horses and reserve the right to ask riders to step on a scale. We ask you to be at the stable, dressed and ready to ride, 15 minutes before your departure time.

Please note we have a weight limit of 100 kg / 220 lbs, and riders must be aged 6+. We ask you to be at the stable, dressed and ready to ride, 15 minutes before your departure time.

Our tour is an easygoing one-hour ride, but we require all participants to be physically fit enough to mount independently. We get on the horses from the ground as this is how they are trained in Iceland (not to stand with a stool/mounting block).

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 2 days before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is a forecast the operator judges unsafe. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Vik Horse Adventure decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 2 days before departure, the operator's policy after that.

    Really nice and calm experience, it’s only one hour, the horses are very relaxed, you do have a chance to go a little bit quicker at the end so it’s a little bit more exciting but overall all the horses going one line and you really enjoy the view and hopefully you have a beautiful day! But overall really nice experience.

    Loved this horse riding experience. Great for all levels. Instructors made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the whole activity. We were lucky enough to experience the Icelandic pony tolt. Again, instructors made sure everyone was comfortable and said they would happily separate the group if some wanted to go faster while some go slower. Ponies were so friendly - highly recommend.
