About this experience

We are joining up with Summit Heliskiing to offer you a four-day backcountry skiing course where you will ski off the beaten track, learn the basics of backcountry skiing and complete an avalanche course. Courses are held from Monday to Thursday, with the possibility of extending the stay after the course.

Accommodation is at our hotel Sóti Lodge in Fljót, with full board, three-course dinners, breakfast and lunch included in the price. Participants have access to our next-door geothermal pool, complete with hot tub and sauna.

The instructors are Sara Hlín Sigurðardóttir, a ski instructor, and Leifur Örn Svavarsson, lead guide at Summit Heliskiing and avalanche expert. Leifur and Sara both guide our heliskiing packages with Summit Heliskiing, and are each skilled, highly experienced guides. Take a look at our team to learn more about them.

We were lucky enough on this trip to experience almost everything an Icelandic winter can offer. The journey began with calm weather and sunshine, and we really could not have asked for a better start — especially being surrounded by such a great group of people. Days two and three were much more wintry, with strong winds and blowing snow, so visibility up in the mountains was limited. On the fourth day, the weather began to improve, and everyone came back from the mountain with big smiles. On the fifth day, we were in Hrafnsfjörður, and the weather could not have been better. We reached a mountain summit, enjoyed the incredible views and the beautiful conditions, and then skied back down. The mix of fantastic snow and some challenging slopes made the whole experience truly unforgettable. The crew — Gunni, Össur, and our guide Smári — were absolutely excellent in every way. They did everything they could to make the trip as memorable as possible. A wonderful adventure, great people, stunning surroundings, and a trip I will remember for a long time. Highly recommended.

Great place. The hotel is very nice, the service perfect and the landscape and the view wonderful. The hard snow (and limited) was somewhat disappointing. The instructor should have divided the group into experienced and non- experienced skiers.

We had an incredible experience in the Westfjords of Iceland aboard the Orkin. Gunnar, Ossur and Arnar were incredible hosts. From the moment we boarded the plane in Reykjavik everything was taken care of. This is a must do trip for any ski touring enthousiast. We will be back!

What a wonderful experience. My family caught at least 50 cod in the waters. If you are worried about sea sickness or the cold of the artic waters, don't let that stop you. They stay in the fjord so the waters were calm. Great educational experience as well as we learned a lot about geology and wildlife. We had a private tour, so we had cod cooked right on the boat (and a little to take with us for an airbnb cookout). Highly recommended. My kids had a ball!
