About this experience

Embark on a scenic journey from Akureyri to two of Iceland’s most captivating destinations: the majestic Goðafoss Waterfall and the tranquil Forest Lagoon. This unforgettable tour offers a perfect blend of Icelandic nature, history, and relaxation.

Goðafoss – Waterfall of the Gods

Your adventure begins with a visit to the stunning Goðafoss (Waterfall of the Gods), one of Iceland’s most famous and beautiful waterfalls. Situated along the Skjálfandafljót River, Goðafoss is renowned for its majestic crescent shape and powerful cascades that drop over 12 meters. This breathtaking waterfall not only offers a spectacular view but also holds historical significance, as it is linked to Iceland’s conversion to Christianity in the year 1000. Spend time exploring the area, taking photos, and marveling at the raw beauty of this natural wonder.

Forest Lagoon – A Tranquil Oasis

Next, unwind in the peaceful setting of the Forest Lagoon, a hidden gem located just outside Akureyri. This luxurious geothermal spa is nestled within lush greenery, offering visitors a serene environment to relax and soak in warm mineral-rich waters. The lagoon’s secluded atmosphere, coupled with stunning views of the surrounding forest and mountains, provides the perfect place to rejuvenate. Enjoy the soothing experience of the hot waters as you unwind in Iceland’s pristine natural landscape.

Hogni (Garfield) was incredibly friendly, professional and knowledgeable which made our day really special. The tour ran with only 3 of us so it was a very personal experience and we got to see all of the sights with no one else around. We also stopped for hot dogs for lunch which were really tasty and affordable. We learnt so much about Icelandic culture and got some incredible photos of all of the sights - of which there were far too many to mention. I would highly recommend and would definitely book with Star Travel again.

What a mindblowing experience! Firstly we went to the Forest lagoon and spent such a wonderful time there, relaxing in hot water with pina colada with a forest view. It was snowing while we were there which made the experience even more magical and movie-like. And then the best part of the tour came. We’ve almost lost the hope of seeing Northern lights that night as it was cloudy and other tours were cancelled but our guide was so confident and just knew WHERE to go! After driving for about an hour we saw Aurora!!! We couldn’t believe our eyes. It was so bright and massive, spreading across the whole sky! We were watching this “show” for an hour: it was dancing in the sky and constantly moving and changing its shape. And the observation spot was between snowy mountains, like in a fairy tale. We were literally screaming and jumping out of happiness because it was so stunning and because our dream came true. And this is thanks to our highly experienced and enthusiastic guide. We are so grateful to him!! He’s a magician who found bright Northern lights in a cloudy day! 15.02.2026

THE BEST! No need to look at any other operator! We've traveled around the world and finally had the opportunity to come to Iceland. We are a family of 10 who were on a cruise and our first port in Iceland was Akureyri. We were fortunate to stay overnight and I wanted to make the most of our time. Through lots of research and communicating with a few vendors, I decided Star Travel was the way to go! We booked a private tour and had Julli as our guide for the day. From the moment we booked, til the end of the day at 7:00pm, we had nothing but positive things to say. Great communication. Professional. On time. Expertise. Fun. and Fair pricing. Thank you for showing us the Capital of the North. We loved our experience! All the best to you!

Really great tour company, recommend them fully! I have come across Siggy from Star Travel several times during my stay in Akureryi and have nothing but praise for him. Funny, knowledgeable, incredibly committed to making sure that whatever tour you've picked, you will have a great experience. Amazing service and super friendly people on board. Way to go. Thank you, Siggy!

Lagoons & spas — questions people ask

Is the Blue Lagoon worth it or is it too touristy?

It is busy and it is worth it, once. The water is milky blue from silica, the setting in the Reykjanes lava is unlike anywhere else, and it sits twenty minutes from Keflavík Airport, so it fits an arrival or departure day. Book a time slot in advance; it sells out. If crowds bother you, go early morning or after 20:00. The Secret Lagoon or Fontana on the Golden Circle are calmer and cheaper alternatives.

Can I do the Blue Lagoon on the way to or from the airport?

Yes, and it is the best way to use it. Transfers like IceTransfer's Keflavík to Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík (/experience/1036423/) or the reverse (/experience/1036419/) stop at the lagoon for a few hours with your luggage stored. Allow at least three hours at the lagoon and check that your slot lines up with your flight. Note that the Reykjanes eruptions have closed the lagoon at short notice; check its status before travelling.

What is the difference between the Secret Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon?

The Secret Lagoon at Flúðir is a simple, warm geothermal pool with a bubbling hot spring beside it and basic changing rooms. It is on the Golden Circle, so it slots into a sightseeing day (/experience/17050/, /experience/624446/). The Blue Lagoon is a spa: silica masks, swim-up bar, saunas and a price to match. If you want a soak after a day of waterfalls, Secret Lagoon. If you want the spa day, Blue Lagoon.

Do I have to shower naked before a pool in Iceland?

Yes, at every public pool and most lagoons. Swimwear off, wash thoroughly with soap, swimwear on, then into the water. It is a hygiene rule because Icelandic pools use very little chlorine, and it is taken seriously. Changing rooms are single-sex with open showers; some larger lagoons have a few private cubicles. Nobody looks. It feels odd for thirty seconds and then it does not.
