About this experience

Our Glacier Lagoon – Jökulsárlón private tour allows you to experience the magnificent south coast of Iceland in a private vehicle with your own driver-guide. The tour starts with a pickup at your accommodation in the greater metropolitan area of Reykjavik. From there we head east towards the southern coastline which is renowned for various nature attractions and interesting exhibits.

What to expect:

  • Charming villages
  • Magnificent waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss
  • Skaftafell national park
  • The beautiful Öræfajökull glacier
  • The magnificent Glacier Lagoon – Jökulsárlón

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

This picturesque waterfall faces the traffic heading along the Ring road of Iceland. It’s narrow and falls off a cliff above a cavern. It’s quite easy to walk up to the base of the waterfall and behind it along a pathway inside the cavern.

Skógafoss waterfall

This mighty waterfall is one of Icelands biggest waterfalls towering 60 meters high (197 ft.) and 25 meters (82 ft.) wide. By the waterfall you can visit Skogar folk museum to get a better insight into the life of Icelanders throughout history in the southern region.

Skaftafell national park

Skaftafell national park was established in 1967. There luxuriant vegetation grows bewteen desert sands and glaciers. Interesting sights within the Skaftafell national park are Svartifoss waterfall, Kristínartindar mountain pass, Skaftafellsjökull glacier amongst other extraordinary sights.

Öræfajökull glacier

Öræfajökull glacier is a stratovolcano on the south-eastern part of Iceland. On top of the mountain lies an ice cap known as Öræfajökull glacier, which is the southern most part of the great Vatnajökull glacier.

Jökulsárlón – The Glacier Lagoon

Jökulsárlón is one of the great wonders of Iceland. In the Glacier Lagoon, you can find huge blocks of ice and icebergs drifting about after breaking off the glacier Breiðamerkurjökull. The lagoon is not very wide but it is up to 250 meters (820 ft.) deep, which makes it the deepest lake in Iceland.

My wife and I just returned from four unforgettable days with Sveinn and Ivar—two days with each of these extraordinary guides—and the experience opened our minds in new ways. Our journey wove together epic highland hikes with shorter explorations of the South Coast’s most breathtaking treasures. Many of these hidden gems would have remained undiscovered without the expertise and passion of our guides, who not only led us to incredible places but also brought them to life through the rich history and folklore of Iceland. Iceland is a land of raw beauty—vast, dramatic, and untamed—and this trip demonstrated to us that it can’t be captured in a single visit. We’re already imagining our next adventure with Iceland Luxury Tours. Thank you Sveinn and Ivar!

Amazing Experience with Iceland Luxury Tours! I had the pleasure of having Ivar as my guide during my recent trip to Iceland, and I must say, it was an experience beyond my expectations. From the moment we met, Ivar provided more than just guiding services; he became a teacher, a storyteller, and a companion. His wealth of knowledge about Iceland's history, culture, politics, religion, and language was shared eloquently and precisely. His personal anecdotes and memories added a personal touch that made the trip truly special. Ivar created a safe and relaxed space for open conversations, some serious and impactful, and others lighthearted and humorous. He handled everything with ease and professionalism, making me feel comfortable and valued throughout the journey. I have no doubt that my trip to Iceland wouldn't have been the same without Ivar. His kindness, compassion, and mastery of his craft were evident every step of the way. I wholeheartedly recommend Iceland Luxury Tours and Ivar to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure in Iceland. I look forward to my next trip and hope to have Ivar as my guide again. Thank you, Ivar, for an incredible experience! Amanda

My first trip to Iceland, I rented a car thinking I could do my first solo trip all on my own. However the first night there we got way more snow than I’ve ever seen in North Carolina and I was afraid to try to drive alone, especially in regions I wasn’t familiar with. Fortunately, Iceland Luxury Tours were able to pick me up last minute. The owner went out of his way to accommodate me and I cannot thank him enough. He was so polite, knowledgeable, and fun to be around it felt as if I spent the day with old time friends. They have all the proper equipment to trek through the terrains of Iceland regardless of the weather. My first day in Iceland, on my first solo trip ever, was literally saved by them and I could not recommend this company enough!

My wife and I spent 5 days touring Southern Iceland and staying at a different luxurious hotel every evening. We had an excellent 4WD Off-road vehicle and a wonderful guide Ivar Palsson. Ivar knew all the history of the different places and due to his history of hiking glaciers was also our personal guide to take my wife and I on the glacier. I have no hesitation to recommend Iceland Luxury Tours an Ivar if you want a hassle free luxury adventure 😊

Lagoons & spas — questions people ask

Is the Blue Lagoon worth it or is it too touristy?

It is busy and it is worth it, once. The water is milky blue from silica, the setting in the Reykjanes lava is unlike anywhere else, and it sits twenty minutes from Keflavík Airport, so it fits an arrival or departure day. Book a time slot in advance; it sells out. If crowds bother you, go early morning or after 20:00. The Secret Lagoon or Fontana on the Golden Circle are calmer and cheaper alternatives.

Can I do the Blue Lagoon on the way to or from the airport?

Yes, and it is the best way to use it. Transfers like IceTransfer's Keflavík to Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík (/experience/1036423/) or the reverse (/experience/1036419/) stop at the lagoon for a few hours with your luggage stored. Allow at least three hours at the lagoon and check that your slot lines up with your flight. Note that the Reykjanes eruptions have closed the lagoon at short notice; check its status before travelling.

What is the difference between the Secret Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon?

The Secret Lagoon at Flúðir is a simple, warm geothermal pool with a bubbling hot spring beside it and basic changing rooms. It is on the Golden Circle, so it slots into a sightseeing day (/experience/17050/, /experience/624446/). The Blue Lagoon is a spa: silica masks, swim-up bar, saunas and a price to match. If you want a soak after a day of waterfalls, Secret Lagoon. If you want the spa day, Blue Lagoon.

Do I have to shower naked before a pool in Iceland?

Yes, at every public pool and most lagoons. Swimwear off, wash thoroughly with soap, swimwear on, then into the water. It is a hygiene rule because Icelandic pools use very little chlorine, and it is taken seriously. Changing rooms are single-sex with open showers; some larger lagoons have a few private cubicles. Nobody looks. It feels odd for thirty seconds and then it does not.
