About this experience

Our private tour to the historic national park and UNESCO cultural site Þingvellir (Thingvellir) allows you to experience one of Iceland’s most beautiful sight’s in a private vehicle with your own driver-guide. The tour starts with a pickup at your accommodation in the greater metropolitan area of Reykjavik. From there we head head on towards the magnificent Þingvellir national park which is renowned for it’s beautiful nature as well as cultural and historical importance.

In the year 930 AD vikings founded the Icelandic parliament Alþingi (Althingi) at Þingvellir. As well as being the site of the foundation of the oldest parliament in the world, it is also the site of where the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart.

Hakið viewpoint

Hakið viewpoint offers exceptional views over the national park and the great lake Þingvallarvatn.

Almannagjá canyon

Almannagjá canyon offers a walking path from the viewpoint down the canyon and towards the location of the foundation site of Alþingi.

Alþingi parliament

Alþingi parliament is believed to be the world’s oldest parliament. The historic site where vikings founded their parliament in 930 AD can be found at Þingvellir.

Drekkingarhylur

Drekkingarhylur is a deep pool at the base of a waterfall that was once used for executions in ancient times.

Peningagjá

A water filled chasm both crystal-clear and deep is a popular spot to throw a coin in and make a wish. This also happens to be a very popular diving location.

    My first trip to Iceland, I rented a car thinking I could do my first solo trip all on my own. However the first night there we got way more snow than I’ve ever seen in North Carolina and I was afraid to try to drive alone, especially in regions I wasn’t familiar with. Fortunately, Iceland Luxury Tours were able to pick me up last minute. The owner went out of his way to accommodate me and I cannot thank him enough. He was so polite, knowledgeable, and fun to be around it felt as if I spent the day with old time friends. They have all the proper equipment to trek through the terrains of Iceland regardless of the weather. My first day in Iceland, on my first solo trip ever, was literally saved by them and I could not recommend this company enough!

    My wife and I spent 5 days touring Southern Iceland and staying at a different luxurious hotel every evening. We had an excellent 4WD Off-road vehicle and a wonderful guide Ivar Palsson. Ivar knew all the history of the different places and due to his history of hiking glaciers was also our personal guide to take my wife and I on the glacier. I have no hesitation to recommend Iceland Luxury Tours an Ivar if you want a hassle free luxury adventure 😊
