The Silver Circle Tour explores the diverse landscapes and rich history of West Iceland, offering a quieter and more authentic alternative to the Golden Circle. This full-day journey combines powerful natural phenomena, scenic waterfalls, cultural landmarks, and local traditions in the Borgarfjörður region.

The tour includes a visit to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, where approximately 180 liters of near-boiling water surge from the ground every second. From here, the journey continues to the picturesque waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, where gentle, crystal-clear streams flowing from beneath a lava field contrast sharply with the raw force of a narrow glacial canyon. The area also offers a convenient stop for lunch, with café and restaurant facilities nearby.

In the historic village of Reykholt, the tour highlights Iceland’s medieval heritage. Reykholt is closely associated with Snorri Sturluson, one of the country’s most influential writers and historians. Nearby, Reykholtkirkja stands beside the remains of an older church built on medieval foundations, reflecting the site’s long cultural and religious significance.

The journey continues to Húsafell, a scenic area surrounded by lava fields and forests. Here, travellers encounter the famous lifting stones, traditionally used to test strength and endurance, and learn about the area’s strong connection to Icelandic folklore and artistic heritage.

The tour includes transportation for the day with pickup and drop-off as arranged, as well as the service of a knowledgeable local driver-guide who provides commentary throughout the journey. All parking fees and access to the scheduled stops are included.

The experience covers visits to Deildartunguhver hot spring, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Reykholt and Reykholtkirkja, and the Húsafell area. Admission fees to included attractions are covered where applicable.

All local taxes and insurances are included in the price.

Food and drinks are not included, allowing travellers the flexibility to purchase lunch and refreshments during the designated stops along the route.

Good to know

Travellers should dress for Iceland’s changing weather, as the tour takes place mostly outdoors. Warm, layered clothing is recommended, along with a waterproof and windproof jacket.

Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are advised due to gravel paths and uneven terrain at several stops. A hat and gloves can be useful, especially outside the summer months.

It is recommended to bring a small day bag, a refillable water bottle, and money or a card for lunch and refreshments, as food and drinks are not included. Sunglasses and sunscreen may be useful on clear days, and a camera or phone is recommended to capture the landscapes of West Iceland.

The Silver Circle Tour is suitable for most travellers and does not require a high level of physical fitness. The experience includes short walks on gravel paths and uneven terrain at several stops, so participants should be comfortable walking short distances outdoors.

The tour is not fully wheelchair accessible due to natural terrain and uneven paths at multiple locations. Infant seats can be provided upon request, but this must be arranged in advance. Children of all ages are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Weather conditions in Iceland can change quickly, and the itinerary may be adjusted if necessary for safety or road conditions. Travellers should dress appropriately for outdoor conditions throughout the day.

Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. No special equipment or prior experience is required, making this tour suitable for first-time visitors to Iceland.
