Iceland stopover packages: 3, 4, 5 or 6 days

Snaeland's stopovers run €722 to €1,539. Four days is the sweet spot if you want Reykjavík, the Golden Circle and one extra. Three suits a self-drive.

Iceland stopover packages: 3, 4, 5 or 6 days

The short version

  • Every package is built on Reykjavík hotel nights with breakfast and a guided Golden Circle day, except the Northern Lights one.
  • Airport transfers are not included in any of them. Add a Keflavík transfer.
  • The 3-day self-drive is the cheapest at €722 and includes two car rental days.
  • Blue Lagoon, South Coast and the Northern Lights tour are optional extras on most packages, priced separately.

Take the four-day package if you have a free long weekend and want the Golden Circle done for you. Take the three-day self-drive if you are happy behind the wheel. The longer stopovers add days in Reykjavík, not more of Iceland, so check what the extra night is buying you.

All five are from the same operator, Snaeland Travel. They are sold as “stopover” packages: a few nights in Reykjavík, breakfast, a guided day, and optional tours you add. Prices are the adult price shown on each listing.

What every one of them skips

Airport transfers are excluded on all of them. Budget for a Keflavík transfer both ways. Our Keflavík transfer guide explains shared against private. Lunch and dinner are also on you. Optional tours are priced and booked separately, so the headline price is a floor.

Three days, self-drive

3 Days Self Drive Stopover in Iceland is from €722. It runs for two nights and includes two car rental days. The route is the Reykjanes drive from the airport, a Reykjavík night, then the Golden Circle on your own: Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss.

The car list runs from a two-seat Suzuki Jimny to a Kia Sportage automatic. It is the best fit for two or more people sharing a car and the worst for anyone nervous about driving in winter. If that is you, skip it. Our winter driving guide says why.

Four days: the Northern Lights one

Northern Lights Stopover in Reykjavík for 3 nights is from €932. It includes three nights, breakfast and a guided Northern Lights tour, with the Blue Lagoon and the Golden Circle as upgrades. It is the one to book from autumn to early spring. Nobody can promise the lights, and a single outing may not show them. That is the risk. Our northern lights season guide covers timing.

Four days: the Golden Circle one

Relaxing 4-Day Iceland Stopover Tour is from €990. It has three nights and a guided Golden Circle day, with the Blue Lagoon and, in winter, a Northern Lights tour as options.

Compare the two four-day packages. €58 separates them. One includes the lights tour and the other includes the Golden Circle. Book whichever you would otherwise add as an extra. If you want both, add the other as an optional tour and check the total.

Five and six days

The 5-day Iceland Stopover Tour is from €1,264 and has four nights plus the Golden Circle day. Best of Iceland 6-Day Stopover Tour is from €1,539 for five nights. Its optional list is longer: the Northern Lights, the Blue Lagoon, a South Shore day tour and a Reykjavík food tour.

You are paying about €275 for each extra night and getting no extra included tour. The nights are in Reykjavík, with breakfast. If you plan to buy two or three of the optional tours, the longer packages make sense because the days between them are covered. If you plan to wander, they are expensive.

Room rules

One guest gets a single room. Two get a double. Three get a double with an extra bed or a triple, depending on availability. Single travellers pay for the whole room.

Our honest take

Most people should book the four-day Golden Circle package, or the lights one in winter, and add one tour. It is enough time to see Reykjavík at an ordinary pace without feeling like a transit lounge.

The six-day package is the one to question. Unless you will buy the South Shore tour and the food tour, you are mostly paying for hotel nights.

If you can drive, the €722 self-drive is the best value here. If you cannot, the packages are fine, but you can also book the hotel and the tours separately and see which comes out cheaper. We would price both before choosing.
