Proposing in Iceland: what a proposal tour costs
A private glacier proposal on the South Coast is €1,180. The two-day luxury version is €4,765. Cheaper routes are a photographer on a normal tour.

The short version
- The South Coast Glacier Proposal is a private 13-hour day from €1,180, with a Sólheimajökull glacier hike and a photographer.
- The Diamond Beach sunrise proposal is a two-day trip from €4,765, with a hotel night, spa and champagne.
- A cheaper option is a glacier photoshoot hike from €202 or a private northern lights tour with a photographer from €1,165.
- Proposals depend on weather and light. Ask the operator what the plan B is.
If you want a proposal that someone else organises, there are two products built for it: a one-day private glacier trip on the South Coast, and a two-day luxury trip ending on Diamond Beach. Expect to pay four figures for either. If that is too much, hire a photographer on a normal tour and do the asking yourself.
The one-day version
Hrafnar Guides’ South Coast Glacier Proposal is from €1,180. It is a strictly private, 13-hour day. You are collected from your accommodation in Keflavík at 08:00 or Reykjavík at 08:30. The route runs through a bakery stop, Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss and Reynisfjara, with a private hike on Sólheimajökull as the centrepiece.
The guide takes you to a quiet spot on the ice for the proposal, which a professional photographer and a 4K drone film. The price covers the guide, the vehicle, glacier kit and the photography. Check the listing for what the photo package gives you afterwards. Check also how the price is counted at checkout, because private tours are often priced per group.
The downside is the weather. Glacier hikes on Sólheimajökull run most of the year, but wind, rain and ice conditions change what is possible. Drones are limited by wind. Ask what happens if the day is poor. Our Sólheimajökull guide covers the hike itself.
The two-day version
Icarus Rising’s Glacier Proposal at Sunrise is from €4,765. It runs two days. You drive the South Coast waterfalls and Reynisfjara, then continue to Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach. The package includes a night at Hotel Jökulsárlon Glacier Lagoon, a bottle of vintage French champagne for the beach and a private sunrise photo session with 20 photos. It ends with Retreat Spa entry at the Blue Lagoon.
That is a lot of driving: the lagoon is about four to five hours from Reykjavík each way. The upside is that sunrise on Diamond Beach is a good place to do it. The downside is that sunrise in winter is late and in summer it is very early, and neither is under anybody’s control. Tell them your dates first.
Cheaper routes
You do not need a package. You need a quiet place, good light and a photographer.
- Glacier Photoshoot Adventure in Skaftafell is from €202 for five hours on Vatnajökull. It is a hike with photographs of you in it, and you decide when to ask. Tell the guide beforehand so they can scout a spot.
- Private Northern Lights with photographer from zimno is €1,165 for five hours. It suits a winter proposal. It also rests on the lights showing up, which nobody can promise. Treat the lights as a bonus and the ring as the plan.
- Reykjavík Sunset & Paddle Board Tour is from €1027, private, 2.5 hours, with photos. It runs in the summer evening light.
What to settle first
Tell the operator it is a proposal when you book, not on the day. Agree a signal. Ask how the photographs reach you and when. Choose a month where the light and the roads suit your plan. Our month-by-month guide helps with that.
Dress for the place. Rings and gloves are a bad mix on a glacier, so keep the ring zipped in an inner pocket.
Our honest take
For most couples, the one-day glacier proposal is the right size. It has a clear plan, a private guide and a photographer, and it fits in a single day from Reykjavík.
The €4,765 two-day trip is a gift for people who want the hotel, champagne and sunrise as one package. If that is you, book it early and plan for flexibility.
If the budget is tight, book the Skaftafell photoshoot and ask during the hike. It will not come with a drone, but the ice is the same ice.
