About this experience
Half-Day Scenic Drive – Hvalfjörður with Hvammsvík Geothermal Baths
Discover the beauty of Hvalfjörður (Whale Fjord) on a half-day private excursion that blends Iceland’s natural landscapes with the thrill of a drive in a modified Ford Focus RS. Designed for those who prefer a shorter, more exclusive journey, this experience emphasizes the art of the drive as much as the destinations. With winding coastal roads, dramatic fjord views, and relaxation at the Hvammsvík Geothermal Baths, this tour offers a refined balance of performance and tranquility.
The Experience
Unlike full-day tours, this half-day journey is about quality over quantity. The route through Hvalfjörður is one of the most scenic drives near Reykjavík—offering quiet roads, panoramic fjord views, and a sense of seclusion. Behind the wheel, your chauffeur showcases the Spirit’s stability, agility, and performance on the fjord’s sweeping curves and long stretches, delivering a drive that is smooth, controlled, and memorable.
Points of Interest
📍 Staupasteinn – A historic stone cairn marking old travel routes through the region.
📍 Fossarétt – A charming riverside area where water cascades over small falls, surrounded by rugged landscapes.
📍 Botnsdalur Valley (weather and condition dependent) – A scenic valley at the innermost point of the fjord, offering hiking trails into Iceland’s untouched wilderness.
📍 Hvammsvík Geothermal Baths – A highlight of the tour, these seaside hot springs provide the perfect way to unwind. Relax in natural pools by the ocean, surrounded by mountains and tidal waters.
The Car – Spirit
This private excursion is enhanced by the character of the vehicle itself. The modified Ford Focus RS is more than just transportation—it’s an integral part of the experience. Its turbocharged power, precise all-wheel drive system, and sport-tuned suspension are perfectly matched to the fjord’s winding coastal roads, creating a journey that is as engaging as it is scenic. Inside, a premium, driver-focused interior ensures your comfort throughout.
Note: Spirit has four bookable seats, though it is best suited for three adults and one smaller individual or child, given the car’s compact performance layout.

The driver was super friendly and clearly knows his stuff, which made it even better. It felt safe but still gave that real racing thrill. Totally worth it if you’re into cars or just want to try something different while in Iceland.

I met Daniel earlier in the day on another tour. However, later I needed a ride from the Blue Lagoon to a hotel in Reykjavik with all my luggage. He offered to pick me up in his race car taxi, and I had no idea what to expect. I messaged him from the lagoon to agree on a pick up time. After that, it became a bit surreal... he picked me up right on time in a beautiful blue race car. It was the most fun “taxi" ride l've ever had. In addition, Daniel is an amazing tour guide and took time to show me the sights and tell me about Iceland along the way. Whether you need a tour, a ride to the airport, or want to hunt for the northern lights with one of the most knowledgeable hunters in the field, just call Daniel. You will not regret.

- Blue Lagoon on the way in or the way out — pair it with your airport transferThe Blue Lagoon is twenty minutes from Keflavík. Soak on arrival day or departure day, and why we'd do it on the way in almost every time.

Lagoons & spas — questions people ask
Is the Blue Lagoon worth it or is it too touristy?
It is busy and it is worth it, once. The water is milky blue from silica, the setting in the Reykjanes lava is unlike anywhere else, and it sits twenty minutes from Keflavík Airport, so it fits an arrival or departure day. Book a time slot in advance; it sells out. If crowds bother you, go early morning or after 20:00. The Secret Lagoon or Fontana on the Golden Circle are calmer and cheaper alternatives.
Can I do the Blue Lagoon on the way to or from the airport?
Yes, and it is the best way to use it. Transfers like IceTransfer's Keflavík to Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík (/experience/1036423/) or the reverse (/experience/1036419/) stop at the lagoon for a few hours with your luggage stored. Allow at least three hours at the lagoon and check that your slot lines up with your flight. Note that the Reykjanes eruptions have closed the lagoon at short notice; check its status before travelling.
What is the difference between the Secret Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon?
The Secret Lagoon at Flúðir is a simple, warm geothermal pool with a bubbling hot spring beside it and basic changing rooms. It is on the Golden Circle, so it slots into a sightseeing day (/experience/17050/, /experience/624446/). The Blue Lagoon is a spa: silica masks, swim-up bar, saunas and a price to match. If you want a soak after a day of waterfalls, Secret Lagoon. If you want the spa day, Blue Lagoon.
Do I have to shower naked before a pool in Iceland?
Yes, at every public pool and most lagoons. Swimwear off, wash thoroughly with soap, swimwear on, then into the water. It is a hygiene rule because Icelandic pools use very little chlorine, and it is taken seriously. Changing rooms are single-sex with open showers; some larger lagoons have a few private cubicles. Nobody looks. It feels odd for thirty seconds and then it does not.
