About this experience
Glacier Lagoon Adventure – Full-Day Private Tour in a Ford Focus RS
Experience one of Iceland’s most extraordinary day trips: a private drive from Reykjavík to the Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón), where floating icebergs, black sand beaches, and Europe’s largest glacier create a breathtaking natural setting. This is more than a sightseeing tour—it is a performance-inspired journey in a modified Ford Focus RS, where the road itself is part of the adventure.
Departure Time
Due to the distance and seasonal daylight conditions, this tour requires an early morning departure from Reykjavík (typically between 07:00–08:00). In summer, extended daylight hours make it possible to enjoy numerous stops along the South Coast. In winter, the focus is on reaching the Glacier Lagoon during the brightest part of the day, with additional stops on the return leg before dusk.
The Drive
The journey follows Iceland’s South Coast, a route lined with towering waterfalls, glacier vistas, and volcanic black sand beaches. In the Ford Focus RS, the long drive becomes a dynamic experience: its turbocharged engine, rally-bred all-wheel drive, and sport suspension bring energy to Iceland’s open stretches and winding sections, while the interior ensures passenger comfort over the full day.
The Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach
At Jökulsárlón, icebergs drift serenely against the backdrop of Vatnajökull, offering a truly unforgettable sight. Just across the road, Diamond Beach sparkles with glacial fragments washed ashore by the tides—a natural wonder unlike anywhere else in the world.
Seasonal Flexibility
- Summer: Long daylight hours allow for multiple South Coast stops en route, including Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara Beach, and Vík.
- Winter: Limited daylight means the priority is to reach the Glacier Lagoon in full light. On the return journey, one or two attractions may still be visited before darkness sets in.
The Car – Spirit
This tour is elevated by the vehicle itself. The modified Ford Focus RS (Spirit) offers:
- Turbocharged performance with responsive acceleration.
- All-wheel drive for stability on varied road conditions.
- Rally-inspired suspension for precision on winding routes.
- Custom exhaust and tuning, providing an engaging drive.
- Premium interior with modern amenities for long-distance comfort.
The car transforms this already spectacular route into a memorable driving experience, ensuring that the journey is as remarkable as the destination.
Note: Spirit has four bookable seats, though it is best suited for three adults and one smaller individual or child, given the car’s compact performance layout.

Who this is not for
- Not a good fit if you want a relaxed day: 13 hours is a long time on the road, most of it spent getting there and back.
- Not for late risers on your first morning — the earliest departure is 07:00, and Reykjavík pickups start before that.
Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

The driver was super friendly and clearly knows his stuff, which made it even better. It felt safe but still gave that real racing thrill. Totally worth it if you’re into cars or just want to try something different while in Iceland.

I met Daniel earlier in the day on another tour. However, later I needed a ride from the Blue Lagoon to a hotel in Reykjavik with all my luggage. He offered to pick me up in his race car taxi, and I had no idea what to expect. I messaged him from the lagoon to agree on a pick up time. After that, it became a bit surreal... he picked me up right on time in a beautiful blue race car. It was the most fun “taxi" ride l've ever had. In addition, Daniel is an amazing tour guide and took time to show me the sights and tell me about Iceland along the way. Whether you need a tour, a ride to the airport, or want to hunt for the northern lights with one of the most knowledgeable hunters in the field, just call Daniel. You will not regret.

Lagoons & spas — questions people ask
Is the Blue Lagoon worth it or is it too touristy?
It is busy and it is worth it, once. The water is milky blue from silica, the setting in the Reykjanes lava is unlike anywhere else, and it sits twenty minutes from Keflavík Airport, so it fits an arrival or departure day. Book a time slot in advance; it sells out. If crowds bother you, go early morning or after 20:00. The Secret Lagoon or Fontana on the Golden Circle are calmer and cheaper alternatives.
Can I do the Blue Lagoon on the way to or from the airport?
Yes, and it is the best way to use it. Transfers like IceTransfer's Keflavík to Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík (/experience/1036423/) or the reverse (/experience/1036419/) stop at the lagoon for a few hours with your luggage stored. Allow at least three hours at the lagoon and check that your slot lines up with your flight. Note that the Reykjanes eruptions have closed the lagoon at short notice; check its status before travelling.
What is the difference between the Secret Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon?
The Secret Lagoon at Flúðir is a simple, warm geothermal pool with a bubbling hot spring beside it and basic changing rooms. It is on the Golden Circle, so it slots into a sightseeing day (/experience/17050/, /experience/624446/). The Blue Lagoon is a spa: silica masks, swim-up bar, saunas and a price to match. If you want a soak after a day of waterfalls, Secret Lagoon. If you want the spa day, Blue Lagoon.
Do I have to shower naked before a pool in Iceland?
Yes, at every public pool and most lagoons. Swimwear off, wash thoroughly with soap, swimwear on, then into the water. It is a hygiene rule because Icelandic pools use very little chlorine, and it is taken seriously. Changing rooms are single-sex with open showers; some larger lagoons have a few private cubicles. Nobody looks. It feels odd for thirty seconds and then it does not.
