This journey will take you through one of the most remote areas of Iceland during Winter. Askja & H0luhraun region is located in the heart of the Icelandic Highlands. The region of active volcanoes, Geothermal hot springs, Still steaming lava fields from previous eruptions, vast glaciers, and an untouched wilderness as far as the eye can see.
Travel on highly modified Super Jeeps trough incredible landscapes.
Accommodation in the Traditional Icelandic Mountain Hut " Dreki "
Breakfast Lunch, Dinner Included
Explore the unexplored, emerge yourself in an adventure of a life time.
No roads, No paths, flexible schedule, and adventures around every corner.
Day 1. Journey to the Heart of Iceland
We depart from the Mountain lodge Möðrudalur early morning and head into the highlands
On this day our goal is to get to Askja mountain hut " Dreki " located by the basin of the Mountains of Askja and set-up for the tour. On this adventure, it is all about the journey, the drive can take from 3-8hours, all depending on snow conditions. That is a part of the adventue waiting, is to embraze the unknown and travel togather trough the wilderness as a team. Along the route we will visit glacier rivers, remote oasis, stop for short hiking stops and more. Once at the hut, we shortly stop, dig ourself trough the snow, into the hut and get the heeter going.
The main goal of the expedition is to reach the Askja Volcano in good weather conditions, if conditions are at they're best, this will be done on day 1, but the aim is to spend the afternoon to explore the proximity of the Drekagil hut. mountain range.
Day 2. Askja Caldera - Víti Crater - Holuhraun lava fields - Vatnajökull Glacier
Waking up in one of the most remote place in Iceland.
Today the aim is set to visit the famous Askja Volcano,
Explore the Víti cxrater, and hike/ Snowshoe within one of earths youngest caldera's
The whole day is spent exploring the incredible volcanic nature of Askja / Holuhraun region, returning in the afternoon, back to our home in the wilderness in Drekagil hut
Day 3. Day of unknown adventures
Our Last day, and travel back to the "real world"
On the day we have multible options, each depending on the driving conditions, snow conditions or weather.
Will we cross the river to visit Kverkfjöll Glacier?
will we head to the lost oasis of Hvannalindir?
Will we cross europe's largest lavafield "Ódáðahraun"
Will we navigate the river routes trough Herðubreiðarlindir.
We simply don't know yet. that is the fun about theese kind of expeditions.

Cancellation for this tour
Free cancellation until 24 hours before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.
If the weather cancels this tour
Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is closed F-roads or a highland storm — decided by the Road Administration and the driver. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.
- 1Geo Travel decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
- 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
- 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.
What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 1 day before departure, the operator's policy after that.

Rúna was an outstanding tour guide. He brought incredible energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude from start to finish. It was a very long day, but his engaging commentary and great sense of humor made the time fly by. He confidently navigated some truly adventurous conditions, including river crossings and driving through snow, all while making us feel safe and comfortable. Along the way, he shared fascinating stories about Icelandic history, geology, and culture that made every stop even more meaningful. This was an unforgettable experience, and Rúna played a huge part in making it so memorable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland.

We had a great time on our buggy ATV tour with Alejandro this morning! We enjoyed the buggy instruction, exciting tour, and interesting lessons about Icelandic geology. We already know this will be one of the highlights of our already eventful vacation to Iceland. Highly recommend!!

We had a wonderful 2-hours ATV trip with Anton. He is a very experienced guide and gave insight into the land we drove. It was a lot of fun. Anton also helped us when we found out that we lost our car keys. Thank you so much for your help! Everything worked out very well.

Booked a snowmobile tour and had a wonderful time! The usual base didn’t have much snow so our guide, Bjorn, took us up to the top of some volcanoes and it was a very cool experience. Bjorn was friendly and interesting to talk to.

Multi-day packages — questions people ask
Are multi-day tours in Iceland worth it compared to day trips?
For the southeast, yes. Jökulsárlón and the ice caves are five hours from Reykjavík, so a day trip is fourteen hours of mostly bus. A two- or three-day tour (/experience/6131/, /experience/923386/) sleeps out there, sees the lagoon at a sane hour and adds an ice cave in winter. For the Golden Circle and South Coast alone, day trips are fine. Multi-day tours cost more per day but include the hotel.
What is included in a multi-day tour?
Transport in a minibus with a driver-guide, accommodation with breakfast, all the listed activities such as glacier hikes and ice caves, and the entrance fees on the route. Lunches and dinners are usually not included; you stop at guesthouses and cafes and pay your own way. Single travellers pay a supplement for their own room. Check the tour page for exact inclusions, the hotel standard and luggage limits, which are tight on small buses.
How many days do you need for the Ring Road on a tour?
Six to eight. Six-day tours (/experience/785082/, /experience/876949/) get round with one night in most regions and long driving days. Seven and eight days (/experience/20483/, /experience/33665/) add the highlands or Snæfellsnes and give more time out of the bus. Anything shorter than six is not a Ring Road tour. Summer versions have the highland detours; winter versions swap them for ice caves and shorter daylight.
Should I arrive in Iceland the day before a multi-day tour starts?
Yes. Multi-day tours leave Reykjavík between 08:00 and 09:00 and do not wait for delayed flights. Land the day before, sleep in the city, and start fresh. On the other end, tours arrive back in Reykjavík in the evening, so do not book a flight home the same night. In the planner, put arrival on day one, the tour from day two, and leave the last day for the flight.
