About this experience
Here's your opportunity for an unforgettable adventure. We'll pick you up from your hotel or guesthouse and embark on an extraordinary journey that promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
As the evening sets in, we leave behind the city's light pollution and venture into the dark, chilly night aboard our specially modified Super Jeeps, designed to tackle Iceland's rugged terrain. Over the course of approximately four hours, we'll follow the elusive Northern Lights, driving even on mountain roads in pursuit of the perfect vantage points for witnessing this mesmerizing celestial spectacle.
When the Northern Lights grace us with their presence, we'll make a stop for photos, capturing your magical moment with a professional photographer to ensure you have a lasting keepsake. To keep you warm during the chilly tour, we'll provide you with comforting hot chocolate.
In the event that we don't immediately encounter the Northern Lights, fear not. Our experienced drivers will lead us to tried-and-true locations where we've had success in the past. These vibrant displays of light, ranging from greenish yellow to an array of stunning hues like blue, red, pink, purple, and white, are a visual symphony that will leave an indelible mark on your memory.
It's important to note that the Northern Lights are a natural wonder and cannot be guaranteed. We prioritize safety, so if weather conditions aren't suitable, we won't depart the city, and we'll reschedule for another night.

Good to know
- Please dress according to the weather in Iceland. Wear warm, comfortable clothing, a waterproof outer layer, sturdy hiking boots, gloves, and a wool/fleece hat.
- Camera and positive can-do attitude.
- It´s not possible to guarantee the Northern lights. We do not leave town if weather conditions are not right and reschedule for another night. If the tour is not successful you are welcome to go again the next time we go out.
- In Iceland, all itineraries are designed to be flexible, taking weather conditions into account. We reserve the right to change your itinerary or cancel it with your safety in mind. At Amazing Tours, your safety is our priority.
- All glacier and adventure trips are undertaken at the responsibility of the participants. Participants must know that all outdoor activities carry an inherent risk and are undertaken entirely at their own risk. Amazing Tours does not assume any responsibility for accidents caused by its customers or can be traced to their actions.
Cancellation for this tour
Free cancellation until 2 days before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.
If the weather cancels this tour
Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is a solid cloud forecast — most operators call it by late afternoon and let you rebook on a clearer night free of charge. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.
- 1Amazing Tours Iceland decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
- 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
- 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.
What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 2 days before departure, the operator's policy after that.

Sold out on your date?
Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.
Who this is not for
- Priced per vehicle, so it is poor value for one or two people and good value for four or more sharing.
- Not available in summer; the operator runs it roughly September to April.
Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.
Why we list it
Amazing Tours Iceland is one of 154 operators we work with — chosen for reliability, honest descriptions and how they treat guests when weather changes plans. We don't list everything; we list what we'd book ourselves. The six checks every operator passes →

We personally had a great service (specifically Dominika ) from amazing tours. I emailed and dealt with them/her directly for a deal on 3 tours . Snowmobiling , helicopter and Northern lights. All were amazing! Northern lights are a natural occurrence and whilst seeing in bright green with the naked eye wasn't possible that night we did still see it faintly and the host was amazing and took some great shots and supplied some home made Coco 🤗the helicopter tour of the volcano area was so surreal! And the snowmobile tour was one of my favourite tours ever ! We got so lucky with snow the night before. Great tour operator and highly recommended !

My friend and I were looking forward to this tour the most for our girls trip to Iceland and we were not disappointed! This was one of the best tours I've done while traveling abroad and such a great value. Close out of any other tabs you have open for snowmobiling, this is it! Not rushed, fun ride up to the glacier where you change, and get on your snowmobile. After the first leg of snowmobiling, your guide will take you to a newly discovered ice cave...its truly beautiful! After that, you'll snowmobile back. Our tour was filled with laughs, jokes, and informative facts about the glacier, ice cave, etc. Please don't pass this one up!

My family enjoyed snowmobiling at the glacier. The view is amazing and the experience was one of a kind. They give you all the gear you need for the cold weather, which was nice. It is super cold at the top of the mountain, so hand and feet warmers are handy, if you could get some in advance!

Northern lights — questions people ask
When is the best time to see the northern lights in Iceland?
September to April, when the nights are dark enough. Within that, late September to March gives the longest dark hours, and the equinox months, September and March, often have active skies. There are no lights in June or July; the sky never gets dark. Anyone selling you a June lights tour is selling you a bus ride. Give yourself at least three nights, because clouds, not the aurora, are the usual reason people miss them.
Are the northern lights guaranteed on a tour?
No. Nobody can promise them, and we will not. Two things have to line up: a clear sky and solar activity. Guides check the cloud forecast at vedur.is and drive to gaps, which is the real value of a tour over standing outside your hotel. What most operators do promise is a free second attempt if the lights do not show. Check the exact retry policy on the tour page, because the number of retries and the validity period vary.
Is a northern lights bus tour or a boat tour better?
Bus, if you want the best odds. A minibus can drive an hour inland to find a clear patch; a boat stays in Faxaflói and sees whatever sky is over Reykjavík. Boats are shorter, about two hours, and pleasant with hot chocolate, and Reykjavik Sailors' cruise (/experience/6637/) includes a free retry. For a serious hunt, a small-group minibus like BusTravel's (/experience/150646/) or a 4x4 tour (/experience/1088067/) is the better bet.
Can I see the northern lights from Reykjavík itself?
Yes, on strong nights. The city is small and the sky over the sea to the north is fairly dark. Grótta lighthouse at the western tip and the Ægisíða shoreline are the usual spots, twenty minutes' walk from the centre. On average nights the street lights drown out a faint aurora, which is why tours drive out. If the forecast shows high activity and clear sky, walk to Grótta first and save the tour money.
