About this experience

Join the Fox Adventure team on this tour to experience the most beautiful places in the north of Iceland.

Our journey takes us along Eyjafjörður, one of Iceland's longest fjords, to our first destination, the Goðafoss waterfall, which holds great significance in Iceland's history. If we are fortunate, we may witness a rainbow and our guide will provide guidance on capturing the best photos.

Next, we will drive to Húsavík, a small town which is known from the film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. There you will see a charming church and port. Then we will visit a secret location near Tjörnes Peninsula, where from June to the end of August, puffins can be observed and the beautiful view can be admired. Our next destination is Ásbyrgi, a horseshoe-shaped canyon in Iceland surrounded by precipitous cliffs. We will then travel alongside the echoing cliffs of Hljóðaklettar, which are world-renowned for their basalt columns that characterize the ancient crater remains. Finally, we will reach Dettifoss Waterfall, which is 45m high and 100m wide. Here, a mass of water, mud, and sand rumbles into Iceland's most impressive canyon. Our next stop is at Hverir, which is known for its boiling mud pits, located by Mt. Namafjall. This area is considered by many to be the most beautiful and catastrophic place in Iceland. We will take a short break at Víti crater near Krafla Volcano, where our guide will provide tips on capturing the best photos.

If time permits, we will make a final stop at Grjótagjá cave to admire the hot blue river. The adventurous can even take a photo standing on two tectonic plates. On the way back, you will be able to admire the beauty of Lake Mývatn.

We look forward to having you on board.

This tour is also available as a private tour.

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 24 hours before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is a forecast the operator judges unsafe. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Fox Adventure ehf decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 1 day before departure, the operator's policy after that.

The €238 buys you free cancellation up to 24 h before. Whether that is worth it is your call — but that is what the difference is.

Who this is not for

  • Not for late risers on your first morning — the earliest departure is 07:00, and Reykjavík pickups start before that.
  • Not available in winter; the operator runs it roughly May to September.

Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

We had an amazing experience with Fox Adventure Experience Iceland! Everything from start to finish was well organized, and the tour exceeded our expectations. Our driver and guide, Baldur, was fantastic. He was incredibly knowledgeable, shared interesting facts and stories about the areas we visited, and happily answered everyone’s questions throughout the day. He was friendly, accommodating, and made sure everyone had a great experience. The minibus was spotless, comfortable, and made for a much more enjoyable and personal tour experience. It was easy to relax and take in Iceland’s incredible scenery. I highly recommend Fox Adventure Experience Iceland, especially if you have Baldur as your guide. He truly made the day memorable, and we would absolutely book with them again!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We booked a tour with Fox Adventure during our visit to Akureyri, and it exceeded our expectations. The guide was enthusiastic, patient, and clearly passionate about Iceland’s nature and history. We never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy the incredible scenery and take photos. The small-group atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a reliable company that truly cares about its guests, I would definitely recommend Fox Adventure. We would happily book with them again!

Amazing experience and excursion. Our guide was very nice, he is the owner of the company. Everything is well organized, before the excursion it was easy to contact and discuss all the details that interested us. There was enough time to enjoy without rush. Great price, much cheaper than on a cruise ship. We were very impressed. We recommend Fox Adventure.

Unforgettable Winter Tour – Professional, Kind, and Fun We spent a winter day in March exploring North Iceland with Baldur, and it honestly felt like traveling with a friend. His knowledge, kindness, and passion for Iceland made every moment special. He shared fascinating stories, provided thoughtful touches like crampons for icy paths, waited patiently while we enjoyed the Mývatn Nature Baths, and even made small detours when something caught our interest. Winter was a magical time to visit — we stood on frozen lakes, had Goðafoss almost to ourselves, explored the “Game of Thrones” cave, and admired breathtaking scenery at every turn. My favorite moment was standing on a hill overlooking the Akureyri fjord. I could have stayed there forever, and Baldur encouraged us to take all the time we needed. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a more memorable day. Highly recommended!
