About this experience
you all the amazing things that make this city special. It's like having your own personal tour, where you can learn about the city's history and see its most famous spots.
First, we'll go to Hallgrimskirkja Church. It's a huge church that you can see from all over the city. It looks like it's made from the rocks of Iceland. If you want, you can go up to the top and see amazing views of Reykjavik. It's like looking at a picture from up high.
Next, we'll visit Hofdi House. This is a very important building because world leaders met here a long time ago. They talked about peace, and it helped end a big fight. The house has lots of stories to tell.
Then, we'll see Harpa Concert Hall. It's a shiny building by the water where they have music shows and big meetings. It's made of glass and looks really pretty, especially when the sun shines on it.
After that, we'll stop to look at the Sun Voyager sculpture. It looks like a big boat made of metal. It's a symbol of adventure and looking towards the future. It's a great place to take photos.
We'll also explore the Old Reykjavik Harbour. It used to be where all the fishing boats came in. Now, it's a fun place to walk around. There are cafes, shops, and old boats to see. You can even take a whale watching tour from here.
This trip is about three hours long, but we can make it longer or shorter if you want. We can also add extra stops, like the National Museum to see old things, the Open Air Folk Museum to see how people used to live, the Wonders of Iceland Exhibition to learn about nature, or Fly Over Iceland to have a fun movie experience.
Our friendly guide will be with you the whole time, telling you stories and answering your questions. We'll make sure you have a great time and learn lots about Reykjavik. It's like having a friend show you around their favorite city.

My sister and I booked a Golden Circle tour with Nordur Travel. They communicated well with us prior to the trip providing pick up details and any changes to the programme. Lara the guide was very good - friendly and informative and considered the needs of the group. I would happily recommend the company.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the Northern Lights, even though we had 2 goes at it! Each trip took us to different places, and although the forecast was apparently very good on the second attempt, we still didn’t see any, despite the enthusiasm and knowledge of both guides. Laura was the perfect guide, with her knowledge and enthusiasm. The hot chocolate drink and pastries were very welcome, and the dark skies on the second night were quite spectacular on their own!

The tour with Magda was super, she told us a lot of information about Landmannalaugar and the hike was really beautiful! Relaxing in the hot spring at the end was also very nice. All in all a great adventure 👍

City tours — questions people ask
Do I need a city tour of Reykjavík?
Probably not. Reykjavík's centre is small enough to walk end to end in twenty minutes, and Hallgrímskirkja, Harpa, the Old Harbour and Laugavegur are all on the way. A short driven tour (/experience/1194803/) makes sense if you have limited mobility, a few hours between a flight and a tour, or want the outer sights like Perlan and Grótta without a bus. Otherwise, walk, and spend the money on a food walk.
How many days do you need in Reykjavík?
One full day for the city itself, plus however many days you use it as a base for tours. Most people spend the first and last nights here and take day trips to the Golden Circle, the South Coast and the sea. Three to four nights in Reykjavík with three day tours is a sensible first Iceland trip. Longer than that, move on; the country is the point.
What is the Imagine Peace Tower and when is it lit?
A column of light on Viðey island, just off Reykjavík, dedicated by Yoko Ono to John Lennon. It is lit each year from 9 October, Lennon's birthday, to 8 December, the date he died, plus a few other dates including New Year. Elding runs an evening ferry and walk to the tower (/experience/1301/) during the lighting season. Outside those dates the island is still worth an hour for the walk and Richard Serra's sculptures.
Is Viðey island worth visiting?
For a quiet two hours, yes. The ferry (/experience/1539/) takes twenty minutes from the Old Harbour in summer and five from Skarfabakki all year. There is a cafe in the old house, a small church, walking paths and views back across the city. Nothing on it is dramatic, and it is exposed to wind, so pick a calm day. It suits a spare afternoon better than a planned one.
