About this experience
Travel deep into South Iceland on this fully private bespoke day tour that combines waterfalls, volcanic coastlines, charming villages, and one of the country’s most breathtaking natural wonders — the glacier lagoon. Designed around your pace and interests, this journey blends iconic highlights with hidden gems while your guide shares stories of geology, folklore, and Icelandic life.
Leaving Reykjavik, you follow the scenic Ring Road through farmland, lava fields, and glacier-fed rivers toward Iceland’s dramatic south coast. Early stops include geothermal towns and cultural villages before reaching a series of spectacular waterfalls — among them the walk-behind cascade of Seljalandsfoss and the hidden canyon fall Gljúfrabúi. Nearby, the powerful curtain of water at Skógafoss showcases the raw energy of glacial meltwater.
Continuing east, you explore towering sea cliffs and sweeping views from Dyrhólaey before walking Iceland’s famous black shoreline at Reynisfjara. The coastal village of Vík í Mýrdal offers a scenic pause surrounded by cliffs and ocean views.
Further inland, optional stops include the mossy canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur and the historic settlement of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, rich with volcanic history and folklore.
The highlight awaits at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon — a surreal lake filled with drifting icebergs calved from a nearby glacier. Seals often weave between the ice while shimmering blue blocks float silently toward the sea. Across the road lies Diamond Beach, where crystal-clear ice rests on volcanic sand like scattered gemstones.
Guests may enhance the experience with optional lagoon boat rides or guided kayaking for a closer perspective of the floating ice.
Throughout the day, your guide adjusts stops, pacing, and timing to suit your interests, creating a flexible and immersive South Iceland adventure unlike any standard group tour.
Optional activities (for an additional fee):
Boat ride on JökulsárlónThe best way to experience Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is by boat.
Speed boat and kayaking tours take one hour each, while the amphibian boat tour is 35 minutes.
KayakingThe kayaking tour is fully guided. All participants are provided with a two-piece suit and all other necessary equipment. The Kayaks are SIT-ON-TOP boats, very stable, and should be suitable for persons who have not gone kayaking before. For safety reasons, participants cannot exceed 120 kg (270 lbs) in weight for single kayaks (kayak for one person) or 180 kg (395 lbs) combined weight for double kayaks (kayak for 2 persons). There is a 14-year-old age limit for the kayaking tour and 10 years for the speed boat. However, they must be taller than 1.30m to join the tour. There is no age limit for the amphibian boat.
All additional activities that extend the tour duration will incur separate charges. Examples of such activities include visiting the Blue Lagoon, glacier hiking, snowmobiling, and similar excursions. Additionally, the tour price will increase for each hour added beyond the standard duration of the tour.

Cancellation for this tour
Free cancellation until 24 hours before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.
If the weather cancels this tour
Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is a forecast the operator judges unsafe. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.
- 1Your Friend in Reykjavik decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
- 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
- 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.
What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 1 day before departure, the operator's policy after that.

Sold out on your date?
Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.
Who this is not for
- Not a good fit if you want a relaxed day: 14 hours is a long time on the road, most of it spent getting there and back.
- Not for late risers on your first morning — the earliest departure is 06:00, and Reykjavík pickups start before that.
Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

Petra was an incredible guide. We asked her to show us as much as she could before taking our crazy family of 10 to the airport for our flights to three different cities ! First stop was the beautiful church in downtown Reykjavik that had just opened with an organ recital. Next stop a lovely spot and observation sight overlooking the city by the Pearl. Cold and wet she found us a lovely coffee shop with the best pastries for a welcome mid morning rest next to the sea. Back in the van we drove for a bit before having the opportunity to explore a geothermal field on our way to the airport. A perfect day and ending to our time in Iceland. Petra shared alot of history and information from the perspective of a local which we all appreciated and enjoyed!

Nice walking trip in Reykjavik city centre with our local guide Hrafn, very friendly and knowledgeable. A good introduction to Iceland on the very first day of our 2 weeks road-trip around the island 👍

- Kayaking in Iceland: glacier lagoon or fjord?Paddle a glacier lagoon if you want icebergs and are in the southeast anyway; paddle a fjord if you want calm water, seals and a cheaper, gentler two hours.
- Private family tours in Iceland: what they costTaste Iceland's private family tours run €1,024 to €1,595 per booking. What you get for that, which age limits apply, and when a cheaper family tour wins.
- Private self-drive guided tour in IcelandA guide leads, you drive your own Land Rover Defender. What the Volcano Trails tours cost per vehicle, what is included, and who should skip it.

Lagoons & spas — questions people ask
Is the Blue Lagoon worth it or is it too touristy?
It is busy and it is worth it, once. The water is milky blue from silica, the setting in the Reykjanes lava is unlike anywhere else, and it sits twenty minutes from Keflavík Airport, so it fits an arrival or departure day. Book a time slot in advance; it sells out. If crowds bother you, go early morning or after 20:00. The Secret Lagoon or Fontana on the Golden Circle are calmer and cheaper alternatives.
Can I do the Blue Lagoon on the way to or from the airport?
Yes, and it is the best way to use it. Transfers like IceTransfer's Keflavík to Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík (/experience/1036423/) or the reverse (/experience/1036419/) stop at the lagoon for a few hours with your luggage stored. Allow at least three hours at the lagoon and check that your slot lines up with your flight. Note that the Reykjanes eruptions have closed the lagoon at short notice; check its status before travelling.
What is the difference between the Secret Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon?
The Secret Lagoon at Flúðir is a simple, warm geothermal pool with a bubbling hot spring beside it and basic changing rooms. It is on the Golden Circle, so it slots into a sightseeing day (/experience/17050/, /experience/624446/). The Blue Lagoon is a spa: silica masks, swim-up bar, saunas and a price to match. If you want a soak after a day of waterfalls, Secret Lagoon. If you want the spa day, Blue Lagoon.
Do I have to shower naked before a pool in Iceland?
Yes, at every public pool and most lagoons. Swimwear off, wash thoroughly with soap, swimwear on, then into the water. It is a hygiene rule because Icelandic pools use very little chlorine, and it is taken seriously. Changing rooms are single-sex with open showers; some larger lagoons have a few private cubicles. Nobody looks. It feels odd for thirty seconds and then it does not.
