About this experience

Departing from Reykjavík in my Mercedes SUV, this tour is designed to be relaxed, giving you plenty of time to enjoy each destination. Along the way, I'll share stories about Iceland's history, culture, and everyday life.

We will see Lake Þingvellir, the largest natural lake in Iceland. This calm lake has a surface area of 84 km2 (32 sq mi) and its greatest depth is 114 m (374 ft).

We´ll visit Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Iceland´s most important historical and geological landmark.

Our first stop is Hakið viewpoint, for a panoramic view over the lake. 

At the dramatic Almannagjá gorge you can walk in between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. You will see the location of Lögberg (Law Rock) where Iceland´s parliament, Alþingi, was established in 930.

We will see Öxarárfoss waterfall and Silfra, the famous crystal-clear fissure where people come to snorkel.

We will stop at Hrafnagjá for a panoramic view over the lake. 

Time permitting, we will take a short detour and see Kerið, a 6,500-year-old volcanic caldera surrounded by striking red volcanic rock.

Then we will drive through the 9000-year-old lava field and conclude with a convenient drive back to Reykjavík. 

By the end of the day, you'll have experienced Iceland's varied geology, dramatic scenery and rich history.
