Cruise port to Keflavík airport transfer

Getting from Reykjavík cruise terminal to Keflavík airport: private transfers start around €147 a car, and you should book before the ship docks.

Cruise port to Keflavík airport transfer

The short version

  • A private transfer from the Reykjavík cruise port to Keflavík airport lists from about €162 to €217 for the car.
  • The drive is around 45 minutes to an hour, but the pickup point and traffic add time.
  • There is no train and no cheap public link from the cruise terminal to the airport.
  • Book the transfer before the ship docks and give the driver your flight number.

The short answer: book a private transfer in advance. From the cruise terminal in Reykjavík to Keflavík airport it is about 50 kilometres and 45 minutes to an hour on a clear road. Listed prices run from roughly €162 to €217, and they are for the vehicle, not per seat. Split between a family or two couples it is fair. Alone, it is not cheap.

There is no train in Iceland. The airport buses run from the city’s bus terminal, not from the port, and getting to that terminal with luggage is its own problem. A transfer that meets you at the ship removes it.

What the prices look like

Listings differ in small ways, so read the vehicle size and passenger limit before paying.

The spread is real but not large. The dearest one states a group size of up to six, which helps a big party. The cheapest ones suit two to four people. Check the luggage rules if you have more than a bag each.

Timing is the part that goes wrong

Ships dock early and leave late, and your flight is not the ship’s problem. Work backwards. Aim to arrive at Keflavík about three hours before an international departure. Disembarkation can take an hour or more when several ships are in. If you have a morning flight after a disembarkation day, you will feel that squeeze.

Give the operator your ship name, the berth if you know it, and your flight number. Most of these drivers track delays, but not all promise it, so read the terms.

If you are going into the city first

Not everyone goes straight to the airport. If you are dropping bags at a hotel, a short hop such as Reykjavik Hotels to or from Reykjavik Cruise Port (from €84) is a much smaller bill. It is a separate trip from the airport run, and it makes sense if you are staying a night or two.

Cruise-to-hotel transfers from other operators run closer to €147, so the price gap on the short hop is worth a look.

Two things that catch people

Wheelchair users, child seats and oversize luggage need to be mentioned when you book. Do not assume. The vehicles are mostly sedans and vans, and a family of five with four cases will not fit in a sedan.

And if you plan a stop on the way, such as the Blue Lagoon, the price changes. That is a different product, not an add-on.

Our honest take

Book the €162 option if you are two to four people with normal luggage. Take the €217 one if you are five or six, or you want the group size in writing. Pay in advance, send the flight number, and do not rely on a taxi rank at a busy port.

If you are alone and your flight is late in the day, look at whether the airport bus from the city terminal suits you instead. It is cheaper, but it needs you to reach the terminal yourself, and on a ship day that is the hard part. We would still rather pay for the car than miss a flight.
