Lava tube
Raufarhólshellir (the Lava Tunnel)
A 1,360-metre lava tube half an hour from Reykjavík, lit and fitted with walkways. Around 6°C inside all year, so it is one of the few things the weather cannot spoil.

Questions people ask
How were these places chosen?
They are the places our operators' own itineraries name as stops. We publish a page once at least three tours in the catalogue stop somewhere — below that there is not enough to say. That is 49 places today, out of 109 we track.
Why are the Icelandic spellings used?
Because they are the names. Þingvellir, Jökulsárlón and Sólheimajökull are not decorative spellings, and stripping the accents makes them harder to pronounce rather than easier. Every page also lists the plain-ASCII form so search still finds it.
Do the prices include getting there?
Yes — that is what you are paying for. Most of these places are free to enter. The figure on each page is what a seat on a tour costs, taken from live per-person fares; private tours are priced per vehicle and are excluded from the medians.
