About this experience

The south coast between Reykjavík and Vík is the stretch of Iceland most people picture when they picture Iceland - and there's a reason for that. This private day tour covers it properly, moving through the landscape rather than past it, with enough time at each stop to actually feel where you are.

The morning opens at Seljalandsfoss, a waterfall you can walk behind along a narrow path cut into the cliff face. In summer, the light through the falling water makes it one of the most photographed spots in the country. From there it's a short drive east to Skógafoss - wider, louder, and dropping sixty metres straight down into the valley. A staircase climbs to the top for anyone who wants the view from above.

The centrepiece of the afternoon is in Vík: the Icelandic Lava Show, where re-melted volcanic rock is poured over ice just metres from your seat. The show tells the story of the 1918 Katla eruption and the people who lived through it. It is genuinely unlike anything else on a tour itinerary anywhere in Iceland. The day closes at Reynisfjara black sand beach - basalt columns, surging Atlantic waves, and a horizon that explains everything - before a final stop at Sólheimajökull glacier for an easy valley walk to the ice edge.
