Reykjavík domestic airport (RKV) transfer: options
Domestic flight to Akureyri, Ísafjörður or Egilsstaðir? RKV is 10 minutes from the centre. Private transfers run €61 to €215, and Keflavík links cost the most.

The short version
- RKV (Reykjavík City Airport) is about 10 minutes from central Reykjavík. A private sedan or van is €66 per vehicle, up to 8 passengers.
- Keflavík to RKV, or the other way, is about an hour and €215 for a private transfer.
- Connecting from an international flight to a domestic one? Leave at least three hours between the two.
- Free cancellation until 23 to 24 hours before on all the transfers we sell.
Short answer: if you are flying to Akureyri, Ísafjörður or Egilsstaðir, RKV is the small city airport and the ride from the centre is short. A private car costs €66 for the vehicle, and that is the right price for a group of two or more. The expensive leg is the one between Keflavík and RKV, at €215.
RKV is not Keflavík
Reykjavík City Airport sits beside the centre and handles domestic flights and some flights to Greenland and the Faroes. International flights land at Keflavík, about 45 minutes away. People mix them up in the booking and lose half a day. Check the airport code on your ticket: KEF is the international one, RKV is the city one.
City to RKV
The simple case. VAREN Iceland’s RKV transfer is €66 per vehicle, one way or return in a single booking. A sedan takes 1 to 3 passengers, a van up to 8. The driver tracks your flight, waits up to 60 minutes free after landing, and drops you at the terminal door. The listed drive is 15 minutes. It cancels free until 24 hours before.
Local Pick Up’s domestic airport to city centre is €61, priced per person on the listing. For two people that is €122, so the VAREN vehicle price is the better deal unless you travel alone. It cancels free until 23 hours before.
If you have a single bag and a hotel in the middle of town, a taxi from the stand will do the same job. The reason to pre-book is certainty on early flights, when you do not want to wait for a car.
Keflavík to RKV
This is the awkward connection: you land internationally and fly on within the day. Local Pick Up’s Keflavík to domestic airport is €215 and takes about an hour. The reverse, domestic airport to Keflavík, is the same €215, and both are priced per person on the listing. There is also B2cute Transfer’s RKV to Keflavík, which shows price on request, so ask before you plan around it.
Two things to know. First, the airport buses and shared shuttles do not usually connect the two airports directly, so a private car is the practical choice. Second, the drive is 45 to 60 minutes and the check-in for domestic flights is quick but real. Leave at least three hours between landing and the domestic departure. International baggage and passport queues are the part nobody controls.
Money and timing
| Leg | Option | Price |
|---|---|---|
| City to RKV, up to 8 people | VAREN private | €66 per vehicle |
| RKV to city centre, per person | Local Pick Up | €61 |
| Keflavík to RKV or back | Local Pick Up | €215 |
Early morning domestic flights are the reason this guide exists. The first departures leave before most public transport runs, and a car at 05:30 is worth more than the fare.
Our honest take
For two people or more heading to the north or east, book the VAREN transfer at €66 and stop thinking about it. It is the cheapest per head and has the clearest terms. Solo travellers can take the €61 option or a taxi.
For a same-day connection from Keflavík, we would rather you avoid the €215 car by splitting the trip. Land, sleep in Reykjavík, fly in the morning. You pay for a hotel night but you stop betting a whole trip on one baggage carousel. If you must connect the same day, book the private car and leave a long gap.
None of this fixes a cancelled domestic flight in bad weather. Wind closes the northern airports more often than visitors expect, so keep your first night flexible.
