About this experience

The end of your trip deserves the same care as the beginning. With this private departure transfer, there is no need to carry your luggage onto a bus or wait for a taxi on your last morning in Iceland.

Your own local driver picks you up at the door of your hotel, guesthouse or apartment, at a time that suits your flight. The drive to Keflavík Airport (KEF) takes about 45 minutes, and your driver drops you right at the departures entrance.

We recommend a pick-up time that gets you to the airport about 3 hours before your flight, so you have plenty of time for check-in, security and a last Icelandic coffee.

The vehicle is just for you and your group, with no other passengers and no extra stops. Your driver helps with your luggage.

Choose the vehicle that fits your group: a Private Sedan for 1-3 passengers, or a Private Van for up to 8 passengers with room for luggage.

One last look at Iceland on the way to the airport? Add the photo stop at the Bridge Between Continents: your driver takes the short detour across the Reykjanes lava fields, waits while you walk the footbridge between the North American and Eurasian plates, and continues to KEF. About 20 minutes, no tickets, in daylight hours; we pick you up 30 minutes earlier so you still arrive with time to spare. Add it as an extra at checkout, USD 99 per vehicle.

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 24 hours before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

Who this is not for

  • Not for late risers on your first morning — the earliest departure is 00:15, and Reykjavík pickups start before that.
  • Priced per vehicle, so it is poor value for one or two people and good value for four or more sharing.

Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

Lovely hour-long cruise round the Utrecht canal. Friendly guide with lots of information about the history and people of Utrecht. Prices were very reasonable, and longer trips available if you wanted.

Five stars service - super nice and helpful staff We booked the boat for a bachelorette party. We had a few logistical challenges prior and on the day itself - and Varen in Utrecht staff were so helpful and kind to help us to find solutions. On th day itself, Max - our captain- went out of his way (quite literally, by picking up the bride by boat at a location that would be easily accessible by car). Moreover, as the bride wasn't able to get to the spot until 40 minutes later, Max at his own initiative even extended our time because the next reservation wasn't until half an hour later after our initial time was supposed to end. How incredibly kind is that? A million thanks to the lovely people of this company - would recommend them in a heartbeat.

Visitors of Utrecht often forget that its canals are just as attractive as those in Amsterdam and the best way to see them is by boat. Good angles for photography as well.

Airport transfers — questions people ask

How do I get from Keflavík Airport to Reykjavík?

It is about 50 kilometres and 45 minutes by road; there is no train. Scheduled airport coaches run to the BSÍ terminal after every arrival and are the cheapest option. Private transfers (/experience/942190/, /experience/1193487/) meet you at the door and drop you at your hotel, worth it for families or late arrivals. Taxis are expensive. If you are stopping at the Blue Lagoon, book a transfer that includes it (/experience/1036423/).

How early should I be at Keflavík Airport for my flight?

Two and a half hours before a European flight and three before North America; the airport is small and queues bunch around the morning and afternoon departure waves. From central Reykjavík allow 45 to 60 minutes' driving plus a buffer in winter weather. That means leaving your hotel three and a half to four hours before departure. Coaches and transfers work backwards from your flight time when you book.

How do I get to Landmannalaugar without a 4x4?

By highland bus. From late June to September, scheduled transfers run from Reykjavík to Landmannalaugar (/experience/247406/, /experience/914986/) and back, about four hours each way on gravel and river crossings. The return-in-a-day option (/experience/270187/) gives you several hours at the site. Rental cars without 4x4 are not insured on these roads and get stuck. If you are hiking Laugavegur, the luggage transfer (/experience/1036525/) moves your bag hut to hut.

Is a private airport transfer worth it?

For three or more people, or a night arrival, yes. The coach drops you at a terminal or a hotel bus stop and you may need a shuttle or a walk with luggage; a private car goes door to door and waits if your flight is late. For a couple on a daytime flight with light bags, the coach is fine and much cheaper. Check the tour page for what happens if your flight is delayed.
