Is it worth it?

Sky Lagoon earns its price on a city evening and nowhere else

Short answer

Worth it, with conditions

Worth it as a quiet adult evening fifteen minutes from downtown; not worth a transfer, a tour or a rearranged day.

The short version

  • Worth it, with conditions. Worth it as a quiet adult evening fifteen minutes from downtown; not worth a transfer, a tour or a rearranged day.
  • We hold 6 day tours here from 4 operators, median €243 a person, cheapest €183.
  • Cheaper alternative: Sundhöll or Vesturbæjarlaug, two of the municipal pools, for around €8. Hot tubs, steam, a cold plunge, and locals rather than a booking system.

Worth it if

  • You are staying in Reykjavík and want one comfortable evening without a coach involved.
  • You like a sauna properly — the glass-walled one facing the sea is the best part of the place.
  • You are travelling without children and want somewhere calm.

Not worth it if

  • You are looking for wild scenery. It is a well-made lagoon on the edge of a suburb.
  • You have already booked the Blue Lagoon. Two lagoon admissions in one short trip is a lot of money for hot water.
  • You are counting euros. The price is close to the Blue Lagoon without the airport geography to justify it.

What you are actually paying for

Admission is bought direct and there is no transfer worth paying for — a taxi from the centre is a few euros and the city bus goes there. The handful of products we hold that include Sky Lagoon bundle it with a full day out, which is a different purchase.

Across our own contracted catalogue, lagoons & spas day tours run to a median of €243 a person, with the cheapest we hold at €183, from 4 operators. Private and per-vehicle products are excluded, because mixing them into a per-person figure makes it meaningless.

The cheaper thing to do instead

Sundhöll or Vesturbæjarlaug, two of the municipal pools, for around €8. Hot tubs, steam, a cold plunge, and locals rather than a booking system.

Questions people ask

Is Sky Lagoon worth it?

Worth it as a quiet adult evening fifteen minutes from downtown; not worth a transfer, a tour or a rearranged day.

Is the Sky Lagoon Ritual worth the upgrade?

The seven-step sequence — lagoon, cold plunge, sauna, cold mist, scrub, steam, shower — takes about half an hour and is the thing that distinguishes Sky Lagoon from a nice outdoor pool. If you are going at all, it is the part worth having. If the upgrade puts the visit out of budget, the visit is out of budget.

Do you need a tour to get to Sky Lagoon?

No, and we would not sell you one. It is in Kópavogur, roughly fifteen minutes by car from downtown Reykjavík, on a city bus route.

Why take our word for it
